Artist History
Chirurgie Esthetique started way back in 1987-88 when two guys, Magnus Nilsson (Maggot Nouveaux) and Mikael Rosensköld (The Rose King), began to make plans for a band. Deeply inspired by electronic bands e.g. FRONT 242, Skinny Puppy, Depeche Mode, Nitzer Ebb, D.A.F, a;GRUMH... and other bands of that same fashion it felt natural for them to follow in their footsteps and make electronic music. So there they were trying to squeeze music out of a commodore 64 a common computer at that time; what happened was that Magnus made a demo of his own using his older brothers synthezeiser and drummachine (YAMAHA DX-11 and Roland TR-505). Later they came across an old friend of Mikaels who, whithout Mikael knowing, had started to become interessted in electronic music, he had also bought himself a keyboard (Casio) and a sound module (YAMAHA FB-01) apart from this he was the proud owner of an ATARI computer and Steinbergs PRO 24 (a sequenser program). Karl Lindberg (Cabal Libergé)had now become the third member of the band and a name was finally thought up, this was in 1988, a name that would change a number of times, Draining Faces. Maggot and Cabal made all the music while The Rose King sang. In 1989 a drummer, Jesper Åkesson, joined the band, the name was changed to Body Movement, he wrote together with Maggot most of the lyrics he also arranged their first gig. The Rose King left the band shortly before this gig and passed the mic to Maggot, the gig went as well as could be expected considering the circumstances, the name was changed again, this time to Mortal Movement and soon after this to Demented vision, a demo was recorded. Jesper left the band and a percussionist, Michael Christensen (Miasma Chrish) took his place, again the name changed, they were now Mundus Vult Decipi (the world wants to be betrayed); a fourth member, Karl Svensson? (Lew) joined the trio which had now entered the 1990s. The 23 march that same year the band, which had now changed name again to Cura Deutor, entered the stage for the first time outside their hometown, namely in Malmö. The concert was reviewed in Swedens leading music magazine of that genre, New Life. Later that year Maggot and Miasma started their sideproject, Submission; being inspired by bands like Die Form Klinik, SPK and so on they made more uncompromising music than they had been doing in Cura Deutor. In late 1990 Lew left Cura Deutor, now named Chirurgie Esthetique, to concentrate on his main band Shock Trauma. 91-01-12 the boys are very nervous they are going to enter the stage at Stadt Hamburg, to some extent a dream come true, bands like a;GRUMH..., FRONT 242, Skinny Puppy, Einsturzende Neubauten and others who at that time were CEs inspiration had been standing on that very same stage, the performance was well recieved and again reviewed in New Life. Later in '91 Chirurgie Esthetique participated on the compilation cassette "Sights From The Evil Eye" with the song "Oppression". Miasma and Maggot play at an industrial festival in Malmö under the name Defernotik, it was later changed to Fornit Some Fornus. 6 june 1992 Chirurgie Esthetique heads a minifestival of four bands; later the same year they hide in a studio for four days to record five songs for a split cd between Chirurgie Esthetique and two bands from Gothenburg, Awful Death and Emetic. The songs were produced by Chris.P (Ticket To Wonderland) and J Erwik J (Mortal Memories), who had been working with Cat Rapes Dog, SPOCK, Elegant Machinery and other swedish electronic bands. The CD "Malleus Maleficarum" was reviewed in the "Yugoslavian" fanzine Crewzine. In march of '93 CE opened for the german band Oomph! in Malmö and that was Miasmas last day with the band. He was replaced by Jonas Cronwik who did'nt become a full member, he was "only" a so called livemember. The next year, 14 may they headed another minifestival in Gothenburg and the same year they opened for Dance Or Die in Malmö. 1995 Chirurgie Esthetique played a minifestival this time in Malmö, heading this festival were Dance Or Die and And One. A concert was held in Gothenburg the 4th of june 1996 with CE as single band on the repertoir. 2 november they appeared on stage in Malmö. This year Jonas had left them, and they played both Gothenburg and Malmö as a duo. The demo Encore Une Fois was released late in 1997. New songs are under preparation and they will show up some time, in one way or another, this year. |
