Artist description
Introduction: The Cheeky White Devils are a nomadic band of primitives presently camped outside of Tacoma, WA. They have long been subjects of discrimination and have remained largely unassimilated into American culture. In the past few years they have been the target of several political campaigns. Jimmy Carter was recently quoted saying, “Hand guns are not the real problem, America’s true nemesis is the Cheeky White Devils.” In spite of such negative press and the fact that much of middle class America uses the group as a scapegoat, the C.W.Devils continue to eke out a living and remain on a whole relatively happy. Profile:You may find the CWD practicing tunes in a shed on the local Indian rez, or in a rat-hole of a room under a local club, drinking brew at a nearby pub, or partaking the ritual cup of java at a dingy dive. The Devils are not hard to find, but may be difficult to recognize, for they come in all shapes and sizes. The CWD’s have no unique defining features and are all of different religious and non-religious persuasions. In fact the only real difference between a CWD and any other citizen of the world is a mysterious melodious croaking emanating the former’s spirit (this shall be explained below). Within the soul of the Cheeky White Devil there lies an infinitely deep well filled to the rim with fresh tunes dying to be recorded like so many fleshy frogs wanting nothing more than to be immortalized in formaldehyde. This chorus of millions of fat amphibians echoes in every one of the Cheeky White Devils’ heads. The Name: Following a pattern set before by previous musical acts such as N.W.A. (Niggas with Attitudes), The Angry Samoans, Rhythm and Jews (an album by the Klezmatics), the devils have mixed their racial identity group in with their band name. Yes, the CWD’s are indeed all white, but it must be mentioned in an age of political correctness in the case of the crude misunderstanding, the Devils take no pride in the pigment of their flesh. “White Devil” is a seldom used but derogatory term for Caucasians; “ Cheeky” is a British word meaning sarcastic or tongue in cheek humor.Request: Biologists estimate that each day another animal species vanishes into extinction, the Cheeky White Devils guestimate that each day another one of their traditional tunes floats off into the nothingness of space, their sound waves either completely dissipating or being forced into orbiting distant stars. Now it must be mentioned that due to lack of sufficient funding the Cheeky White Devils have had a difficult time preserving their culture and music, living under the constant threat of being obliterated by the rest of civilized society, therefore the Devil’s are put in the rather uncomfortable position of asking anyone who sees value in their music to help record and distribute it. In other words, the Wandering Devils wish to make a treaty with mp3 or any indie label interested in them in hopes that a reservation and funding will be set aside for their benefit and the benefit of all of humanity. |

Music Style
In a typical music collection of a CWD one might find Irish drinking tunes, Mexican merengue, Cuban traditional, Indian ragas, British punk, NY hardcore, San Fran ska, Bulgarian polka, Russian mp3 files, Southern Blues, Big Band jazz, busking unknowns, and hundreds of other oddities. Each person with their various musical fetishes brings a completely different influence to the group and adds to its eclecticity. Some of the styles have coagulated into seemingly nameless hybrids, their notes melting, twisting and screaming as they are wrenched from their more conventional home and dropped in the devil’s blender, still others have remained apart. |

Artist History
The history of the Cheeky White Devils is complex and convoluted and would probably only confuse and disorientate the reader. Seeing how history is written by the conquerors and taking in to account that the Devils have never conquered or been conquered, it is suffice say that we shan't delve too deeply into their history. In recent years they have been spotted all over the world, migrating out of the U.S. not because of political injustice or fear of ethnic cleansing, but just for the sake of wandering. The CWD’s have played Norwegian sailor’s bars, Guatemalan cafes, LA. Clubs, Mexican sidewalks, Czech Trains, and even a Texas Denny’s, not to mention the normal bars and all- ages clubs in the Seattle area. |
