Artist History
Rusty James was formed in the summer of 1996 amidst the break up of Little Rock bands such as Five-0, Chino Horde, and Substance. We played together around Arkansas for about a year before college and restlessness pushed each of us one by one out of the south. Josh was the first to leave, going to Knoxville, TN. and playing bass for 30 Amp Fuse. Graham left soon thereafter for the West Coast to start college, while Shannon and I stayed behind a little longer before moving to Brooklyn, NY. None of that would last though. After years away spent studying, writing, drinking, etc. we all somehow made our way back to Little Rock. After some months of planning and procrastination, we started playing again, this time though more as a songwriting collective and less (actually never) as a live act. Then, just as we thought we were getting close to finishing up what would have become our first record, we instead were forced to deal with the untimely death of Shannon Max Yarbrough. From his days in Five-0 in the early nineties, to his work with The Big Cats, to the demos he made by himself in New York and then once again in Arkansas just last year, Shannon's talents seemed absolutely limitless. While he was known by many as an incredibly imaginative guitar player, it was his somewhat recent dedication to songwriting that had made those close to him in awe of the rich future that lie ahead. He is remembered and missed each and every day. Out of respect for Shannon, Rusty James is no more. While we all still play music in one capacity or another, collectively we didn't feel right going on together under that name without Shannon. Most of the songs originally slated to appear on the Rusty James debut now will appear later this year on a tribute record for Shannon. For more information on that project you can email us at rustyjames2000@aol.com Thanks and take care. |
