Artist History
James J. Alexander began singing, playing various instruments and writing poetry at a very young age[around the age of 9]. His favorite instrument at that time was the sax, while in high school he played for a group called "The Soul Setters" from New Bedford, Massachusetts. After completing high school he enlisted in the Marine Corp. and while stationed in Japan began playing guitar and writing and singing original music. His first concert was by invitation of the Japanese Consulate and held in Tokoyama. In 1978 he began to write and sing contemporary christian music. He performed at churches,coffee houses, and concerts in several states and recorded at numerous recording studios around the country, one of which was "Sugar Hill". James is also a published poet! He was nominated for "Poet OF THE YEAR 2000" by the International Society Of Poets. He received an EDITOR"S CHOICE AWARD for outstanding achievement in poetry by the International Library Of Poetry and WWW.Poetry.Com. Was INDUCTED as a INTERNATIONAL POET OF MERIT. Was NOMINATED for DISTINGUISHED MEMBER of the International Society of Poets by the Board of Directors and the Advisory Committee. His poem "An Autumn Day" was published in "America At The Millenium" The Best Poems And Poets Of The 20th century.His poem "Tis Gray" was selected as a semi-finalist in the North American Open Poetry Contest and entered into the final competition.
