Artist description
Full-force, psycho-surf instrumental attack with some warped vocal tunes thrown in for good measure. Most songs explore the darker side of the surf/rockabilly genre with titles like "Sharks Feed at Night" and "My Mommy, My Zombie." The band displays its macabre sense of humor as heard in songs like "Floating Face Down" and "The Grim Reverb." |

Artist History
Formed around 1996 when Pete put in a call to longtime musical sidekick Billy about forming an original surf/rockabilly combo as a way to get people to buy them beer, Elvis Can't Surf has tremendous respect for the form but isn't above bending or even destroying it altogether for the sake of a good tune. Rounding out the lineup with local skin basher Joe "Mojo Jojo" Gusich and enigmatic outsider Mike "the Burner" Byrne (he's from Roswell you know) on bass, the band concocts a driving surf-influenced attack that has entertained audiences from Hollywood to Hermosa Beach. |

Press Reviews
the word from Phil Dirt at REVERB CENTRAL - “.........the music is excellent. Some of this is quite inventive, and they certainly have a handle on being dramatic. Semi reptilian surf slithering from the depths,"SurfZILLA" is dramatic and commanding. The nervous edge of the music leads to a sense of aquaborne doom. "The Fly"-
An insect warble modulated lead guitar leaves the impression that a giant flyous buzzicus is about to lite on your back porch, ending life on earth as we know it. Adventurous and estranged from reality.
______ "A Surf band who not only play amazingly well, but also put together fun, authentic songs. Loaded with trebly reverb and cool, easy-moving rhythms, Elvis Can't Surf put a haunting stomp in their misty Surf tunes. Whereas many new Surf bands get caught up in the kitschiness of the genre, these guys deliver the goods". - Mark Murrmann, reviewer, Listen.com |
