Band formed in 1996 and put out two demos before taking a break - pulled it all back together with new members that give the band a very strong line up, a serious attitude and the determination and talent to make a difference in the metal scene. The triple guitar attack is powerful, heavy and crunchy as hell! |

Press Reviews
Nailhead81@aol.com writes: Descension - True American Black(?) Metal by Nailhead (John): Even though the title of my post is a contradiction of terms (he he), here is my honest review on the band Descension. I won't hold back with what I think, so you can rest assured that this is not a biased review...When I first heard that Todd was in a black metal band, I kind of smirked. I thought "OK, the guy makes like four movies at once, and still has time for a band on his roster"? But, DESCENSION pulls it off. And oh how they pull it off. Descension is ass kicking gut munching blood pumping no holds barred excitement. I mean, any song with this much diversity and originality has to rock, right? I wouldn't really label Descension a black metal band, but rather a gorrific, kick ass metal band giving something brutal and honest back to the fans who have longed for something more than this rap/rock bullshit from the likes of Kid Crock, Limp Dickzit, KoRnhole, Tonedefs, Methods Of Mayhem (only on the ears)etc. Now, if I had to pick a favorite song by Descension, it would be a tough call, but would come out a tie between Beyond The Gates Of Hell, and Hostility. Descension is a band that, with proper time and care, will rise like a phoenix from the ashes of the metal scene, and carve an X into every jaded music fans forehead. -- EHREN, Horror-zine editor and metal fan writes: What can i say? This is my kind of music. They not only successfully pull off the black metal style, but they incorporate power metal themes into it. How many black metal bands have the balls to slow it down and do some Iron Maiden-esque twin guitar? Not Many (ok Emperor...but they are Gods and everyone knows it). Hearing Beyond the Gates of Hell (a very excellent song, among my favorite metal songs written) then hearing Hostility, then FROSTBLISS and seeing the versatility Descension has really makes me know they will make it. If i thought Descension sucked, id probably say Descension sucked. But Descension are without a doubt a talented, innovative, and downright kick ass band. Best of Luck to you all. -- Megametal E-Zine writes: I have heard so many bands claim to be "fresh" and "original" and "powerful" not only on mp3.com but in press kits and such that I almost threw this band aside. I had them pegged at another lame American rip-off of a Swedish or Norwegian band. This was NOT the case here. They were honest in the press letter I received. These songs are all so different, yet share common elements. My favorite right now is the track Frostbliss, followed by Game Of Death. I like the different vocals on Game Of Death, there are mellow ones, screams, females vocals and even death growls. But the vocals on Frostbliss are simply stunning. They rip into the soft flesh of humanity and never let go. The song is a mix of chugging heavy verses and majestic choruses. The sound samples really add depth and emotion to the song as well. Two other standout songs are Stygian, with the relelntless battery it explodes upon the listener, then dives into a very different bridge, with very strange chord structures all layered over one another. The other song is Hostility and I simply couldn't get this one out of my head for days. I found myself singing it, humming it, hearing the tortured screams of "You wanna KILL ME for who I am... go f--k yourself!" over and over. Brilliant! Thanks for the honesty guys! Your band is fresh and innovative and original and most of all, it is true metal, just like you say. I say buy this demo now, and then buy the album the day it hits the streets! |
