Artist description
"Try to imagine Kraftwerk in a to the death cage match with Killing Joke and Gang of Four... with Lee Perry documenting the whole thing."This is the response Teledubgnosis sonic abuser Jason Wolford gives when asked to describe the sound of their new EP. "The idea is simple. Really, really heavy rythyms topped with anlog circuitry, found sounds, and noisy yet stll pretty guitar and string instuments. All blended and mixed to straddle the fine line between dub spaciousness and industrial level noise." Can such a hybrid exist in harmony? Have a listen to Teledubgnosis' latest EP and see for yourself. |

Artist History
It all started in the winter of 1995 as a recording project between drummer/percussionist Ted Parsons and sonic manipulator Jason Wolford in Wolford's home studio. The duo had previously collaborated in the short lived NY noise band Thwig before Parsons went on to fulfill hs obligations with his full time project, Epic recording Artists Prong.Though the material from these sessions was never completed or released, it formed the stylistic foundation that Teledubgnosis would claim 4 years later. Parsons roots were in the world of noise, having pounded skins for such noise heavyweights as Swans, Foetus, and Of Cabbages and Kings. But his growing interest in the overproduced world of dub, Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound in particular, led to his contributing to experimental, dub projects with the likes of Bill Laswell, Dubadelic, Buckethead, and Material. Ted is also a member of the British noise heroes Godflesh.Wolford, having cut his musical teeth in the late 80's/early 90's Industrial Hip-Hop scene in Dallas Texas, had a musical foundation in the hip-hop world. As a member of Decadent Dub Team, Texas' answer to Tackhead, he was a much respected DJ in the extremely competitive Southwest. Other projects included International Thief Thief, and Steel Porn Rhino. Later his technial and production skills would land him in the producer's chair. Sculpting sounds for albums by NYC's Emma Peel, and Dallas, Texas' Captain Audio. In early 1999 Parsons and longtime friend and collaborater Gregory Grinnell began combining sounds in a Boston area rehearsal space.Grinnell, a talented multi-instrumentalist, and Multimedia artist was a long time member of legendary New York Ska band, the Toasters, and was a member of NYC based hip-hop crew Unity Two. His knowledge of music and technology led to his fusing the two skills to achive his musical vision. The recordings he and Parsons were doing in thier spare time in a rehearsal space, far outshined much of the current "experimental" electronic music in creativity and quality. In spring of 1999 the first meeting of the minds that would become Teledubgnosis took place while Wolford was in Boston Engineering sound for Firewater. It was concluded that the trio was in agreement on musical direction and immediately began exchanging unfinished ideas."We began a writing process that can only be described as subtractive composition..." Wolford explains. " When one person had put all they could into an idea, it would be handed off to the next for them to add to and adjust the arrangment. All the while Ted being the rythmic foundation. After a few exchages the music would have amassed more more info than was necessary, the weeding out process begins and final arrangments take form." This unconventional approach to composition has allowed Teledubgnosis the freedomto try virtually any idea that has come to mind. And with a limitless pool of musicalpeers as contributors, the music continually takes unexpected turns in style, rythymand overall sonic texture. |
