Liquid Tri-Psycle - \li–kwad\ \’tri\ \’si–kal\, Nomad Recording Studio It doesn’t take long to appreciate Liquid Try-Psycle’s newest effort. Listening through the album’s eleven songs is like diving deep into a pool of cool punk, pop, and rock tunes. Right from the start, “Abreaction,” the disc’s first and best track grabs every ounce of attention and holds on with a steel grip. Bands like Blink 182 and Bowling For Soup have already proven the popularity of using a punk influence to strengthen their sound. It seems as if Liquid Try-Psycle has discovered this trick as well. Of course, it also doesn’t hurt that Brent Elrod’s vocals are as strong as they come. His voice is a perfect match for the anxious and driving rhythm provided by the rest of the crew. The key to successfully using the punk sound is to avoid becoming trapped in it. Luckily, the band evades this dilemma by using a foundation of hard pop and modern rock, only adding the punk genre as a heavy seasoning to cap off the finished product. The album does have a few weak spots, though. Just as with the original wave of punk music, some of the lyrics are a bit too simple and predictable. Fortunately, the band appears to be growing musically, and with most young bands, deeper lyrics naturally develop as a band matures.Liquid Try-Psycle’s album is surely an example of Texas punk-pop music at its best. Hopefully the band will continue to produce fun and aggressive music for years to come. (Jason Janik)HarderBeat Magazine
