Artist description
ERIC BRANDOLI's self-titled release is a refreshing modern R&B/pop album, with a sound that is all his own. The music is proud and soulful yet joyous and danceable. The singer songwriter finds ways to question and contemplate his feelings aloud in song, inevitably bringing us along for the ride. He also plays most the instruments on the CD with younger brother Paul Brandoli on drums throughout. |

Artist History
A WORD FROM THE ARTIST I was lucky to grow up in an artistic environment. My mother has pictures of me at age two playing an upright piano and at age six playing a Fender Rhodes. I was the kid on the kitchen table playing the harmonica for a house full of hippies. My mother and her friends had their young adulthood in front of them. With JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. gone. Their skeptical views of life, politics and government were turned upside down. No one really knows if the great music from this era helped shape our country. But I do know it helped break down barriers for artists. Especially black artists. Who could contest the powerful voice of Otis Redding or the soulful ways of Aretha Franklin? No one. How about Stevie Wonder or James Brown? Are there actually people out there that haven't been effected by this music? A big smile, an urge to dance, or that warm feeling inside. All of this leads to my CD, self titled Eric Brandoli. The way these performers make me feel, has tremendous inspirational value to me. I have a newfound respect for engineers and producers because in the past year or so I have recorded this CD from scratch. I sing and play most everything except for the drums. I have my brother Paul Brandoli on the drums. His work is a big part of the sound on this project. There's an uncanny conviction in his playing that separates him from other drummers. Although I've been a house painter, landscaper, soldier, cook, firefighter and I don't regret doing any of these things. I'm finding more than ever before that I've always needed to create and to perform. I'm also learning as I go that the journey is the best part. PEACE, Eric Brandoli Eric Brandoli is the former leader of a seven-piece funk band called BROTHERMAN. This band was very popular on the college circuit from years (96-99). Mailing list of 850. |

Press Reviews
Northeast Performer, Nov 2000Eric Brandoli - self-titled Produced and Recorded by Eric Brandoli for Brotherman Productions Reviewer -Michael Khouri .................................................................... Eric Brandoli loves his Funk. And on his new self-titled release, guitarist/bassist/keyboardist/songwriter Brandoli invites all like-minded music fans to join in on the joy, groove and thoughtfulness offered up on this laudable effort. Brandoli is a sincere, meditative, introspective artist. Although a fine guitarist, singer and piano player, Brandoli shines brightest on the electric bass. He's a little bit Jaco, a little bit Anthony Jackson, and a lot himself. If there is a superior bass player in this genre within the bounds of New England, let them stand up now and be counted. Not just a technical wizard, Brandoli‚s playing is poetic and distinct. Placing humility above ego, he wisely shuns the common urge to overplay. Like the great Louis Armstrong, Brandoli is a minimalist, but the few notes he chooses, pack enormous punch and poignancy. The opening track, "Kinda Love" is a funk-fest with a see-saw melody that keeps the listener off balance and clinging like a roller coaster ride at Coney Island. From the "Don't Take Me Alive-esqe" guitar solo (wonderfully played by John Kasiewics) on "You Got Me" to the inspirational rap on "Soul Check" Brandoli illustrates that he's not a one-trick musical pony. Throughout this entire project, Brandoli digs deep, excavating the best from his band, his muse and his spirit. This artist, however, is not all things. At this early stage, Brandoli must write stronger, more memorable hooks and melodies. But like splitting the atom, Brandoli, through his diligence, persistence and love, will one day soon discover the key to releasing the wildly spinning compounds and particles that make up the profound composer that is recessed within his young musical nucleus. And when he does, the repercussions will be felt far and wide. Northeast Performer, 285 Washington St. Somerville MA 02143 email: editorial-ne@performermag.com |
