Artist History
Christopher Jentsch is a recording and performing artist working primarily in jazz and contemporary improvisational forms. He is also a composer of jazz and concert music having written for ensembles such as various chamber groups, orchestras, bands, and jazz ensembles.In 1995 Jentsch received commissions from the Penfield Commission Project and the Maelstrom Percussion Ensemble. The following year he was guest artist and composer in residence at Fairport High School (New York State) on a grant from Meet the Composer and the Commission Project. In the past fifteen years Mr. Jentsch has worked with such diverse musical personalities as Ira Sullivan, Harvie Swartz, Chris Wood, George Russell, Jim McNeely, Chris Speed, John Cage, Frank Carlberg, Maria Schneider, and Vince Mendoza. He appears on the CD John Cage, Volume 11 (Mode Records 41).His group Planet X performed numerous radio broadcasts in Boston and was a staple of that music scene during the early '90s. While based in Miami at the end of the decade Jentsch released his first CD Media Event with his trio on Blue Schist Records. His second CD MIAMI SUITE (1999) presents all original works for large jazz ensemble and features his conducting of the University of Miami Concert Jazz Band. Scheduled for a future chamber music CD is a recently completed string quartet and songs for piano and soprano voice. Now a resident of Brooklyn he has been composing for and developing a new band, Jentsch Group. His music is published by the University of Northern Colorado Press. |
