Artist History
Kevin Quinn and Neil Spaulding, front-men for the much-loved underground psychedelic-pop band The Dead Monkeys, had been sucessfully writing and recording together since the 1980s, but when they got together for a studio reunion with Pete Weiss (Willard Grant Conspiracy, Doug Yule, Charlie Chesterman) at Boston’s famed Zippah Studio, a fantastic and strange three-way collaboration ensued. Dipping their twisted pop in bizarre yet beautiful arrangements and linking key songs together with found sounds and other weirdness, the three have created a concept album not far removed from the likes of The Monkees’ Head or The Mothers of Invention’s We’re Only in it For the Money. As the album's notes say, “Behold the glorious enigma of rhymnatic assonance! For within sound lies mankind’s multiplicity.” Confused? Don’t be. Just be Sool. |
