Artist History
sue and zak have been in a number of legendary rock outfits, ranging from the rough edged "suburban manifesto" to the sublime "holden." brought together by their red hair, their mutual friend matt fleming, and their enjoyment of good tunes, sue and zak quickly became the lennon and mccartney of rutgers university, circa 1996. despite their enormous talent, it seemed that any combined effort of sue and zak was doomed to failure. so zak joined worthless, who began enjoying unprecedented success, and sue joined stormshadow, who continuted to be artistically misunderstood. (it's certain that they will be posthumous legends, however.) In the summer of 1997, zak got a girlfriend and began writing soppy songs. since worthless would have none of this wussiness tarnishing their punk rock bad-boy image, zak and sue began to collaborate once more. the lineup also featured emo adam on drums and then-unknown ivan berko on bass. they spent the summer writing pop gems in adam's bedroom in long branch, and finally recorded a demo with chris "gobo" pierce of doc hopper/sinkhole fame at technical ecstacy in new brunswick. the magic of that summer couldn't last forever, though. rock, star enjoyed a lackluster year of disinterest and apathy and everyone in the band slowly realizing that emo adam was kind of a jerk. although rock, star played a few notable shows during this period, (opened for converge, world/inferno, etc) they all knew it was the beginning of the end. rock, star broke up in the summer of 1998. we were all devastated.cut to fall, 1999. zak's broken up with his girlfriend and needs an outlet for his hurt feelings. again, worthless will hear nothing of it. so...zak calls sue and rock, star gets back together. this time, however, the band boasted a star-studded rythym section. Steve Asbury (Worthless, Standpoint, Terminus, Savage Assault, Second Nature Health Foods) was now on drums, and Ed Joyce (ex-Leftovers) took over on bass. It was pure magic. After recording another 10 songs with Chris Pierce (who sometimes moonlights on drums when Steve is on tour with some crap hardcore band), the band went on to...do nothing with the recording, even though it's really good. cut to now, 2000. Sue's putting the songs up on mp3.com. Record contract here we come. where's my deli tray? |
