Artist description
I debated on calling the group, The Bryson Semi-Digital Consort, but opted against it. While it would have been more descriptive (as most of my music is a combination of mainly MIDI with some acoustic instrumentation/voices), but that would have disenfranchised the folks that know my music under my old pen name of Jonah Barabas. |

Artist History
Between 1985 and 1989, I made a failed attempt to get into the jingle business. After three years of struggle and starvation, my wife was able to explain that elusive principle of economics that evades many musicians -- you can't keep spending more than you earn. I finally decided to quit the music business after many lovingly vigorous discussions.
However, music was such an important and intricate part of my life that I had to stop cold turkey. I completely stopped teaching, playing, composing, and, to some degree, even listening. That lasted until the mid-90s.
Horror happened. My six-month-old niece, Bethany, died. I couldn't express verbally what I felt. So, I went out and bought a note editor to try to express the grief. However, I found that what once was a gushing flow of sound was now only a parched river bed. Like the overly cautious servent in the Parable of the Ten Talents, I had lost what had once came so easily. I prayed to my God for forgiveness and promised that I would not seek fame or fortune with what talent He decided to give me back.
He did give some of it back. Per my promise (and working under the stupid assumption that the world was out there waiting for me to start back again), I composed under the pen name of Jonah Barabas. Where did I get the name? Jonah becase he was the reluctant prophet (like I have reluctantly fulfilled my calling) and Barabas because he walked free because Christ went to the cross (like everything I have is only the grace of God).
Contrary to my dislusion, however, the world was not holding its breath for me to start making music again. So, at the start of this 2001, I have dropped the pen name. |
