Artist History
Drohm was founded in spring 1994 by the only member at the time, Travis Lorden. The first promo was recorded in april containing only two songs and a very primitive recording, but still did a fair job at getting Drohm's name out and about the underground. Some time was taken in between the next recording to revamp Drohm's sound, and on August 30, 1996, "A Winter's Burial" was recorded at West Sound studio (December Wolves, Desolate, Infestation, amongst others) and contained three songs of "chaotic blizzard metal". The demo had over 400 copies distributed and garnered quite a few magazine interviews, reviews, and several radio stations over the globe featured tracks on the air. Some record label interest also took place, but the failure to write new material inevitably killed Drohm's rise through the underground....
During several years of inactivity, Travis continued musically in a couple different local bands that proved to be rather uninspiring, while still writing off-and-on for a future Drohm recording. It was in late fall/early winter 1999 that Travis and vocalist Brendon Bean joined forces, quickly composing material for what would become the six-song CD "Everlasting Departure" released in spring 2000. The disc, although with limited promotion, has received mostly positive reviews, several interviews, and a spot on the Eternal Frost compilation CD.
Spring 2001 saw another addition to Drohm, good friend and drummer/guitarist/vocalist Eric Cook. Eric played with the band Hallucinated Salvation back in 1995 along with his various side projects through the years (most currently working on an ambient project called Temptations Burning). Eric took a flight from Tennessee up to New Hampshire, and in less than two weeks the four tracks for the current promo, "The oracles of Darkened Time" were written and recorded. Engineering this time around was handled by Dave March at The Cell Block Studio in Laconia, NH. The result is by far Drohm's strongest material, with the depth of the live drums and the use of several different vocal styles, along with Drohm's own unique songwriting.
Currently, the band is shopping around the promo to any and all 'zines/labels/radio stations/bands and fans interested in dark metal music. Hopes are to secure a record label to re-release "Oracles..." in a proper format and to record a full-length album in 2002.

Drohm (USA)- "Oracles Of Darkened Time" Promo 2001
The newest slab of darkened metal from hew Hampshire and another stepping stone for the band with some quality songs in the Black metal genre. There is some repetition on here but Drohm has proven over the course of time that their songwriting skills and guitar rhythms/leads cover the "bare areas".The EP is 4 songs and another good release for them with the uncertainty at this time if a full-length will be in the works and if they are doing it themselves or finding label interest; more info as I get it.

Drohm (USA)- "Oracles Of Darkened Time" Promo 2001
Rating: 7/10
The band characterizes their music as "Chaotic Blizzard Metal". Speaking in categoric terms, "Oracles..." features 15 minutes of fast-paced Death/Black Metal. Obviously, Black parts prove to be dominative. This stuff is worthy, so I guess that early IMMORTAL fans will praise it.

DROHM (USA)
THE ORACLES OF DARKENED TIME PROMO (15:36)
SELF-FINANCED
An American death/black band that was started in 1994 by Travis Lorden.
After releasing a demo and an album, Drohm now release their first creation
with a drummer of flesh and blood. Although the production could have been
a lot more 'open' (it takes a bit longer to hear the little details), the
songs in themselves are good enough to make it enjoyable to listen to
Drohm. After a short instrumental intro they kick off with " Within the
palace of the seven gates", a track that includes many rhythm changes and
shows that the band members know how to handle their instruments. Perhaps
people are still a bit confused about what style Drohm plays. Well, the
American version of black metal has always been more technical, and leaning
more towards death metal. You won't find high shrieking sounds on this
mini-album. The only black metal element are the use of high vocals,
although grunts also are used quite occasionally. All in all a good
released and now that the band has a full line-up I'm interested how they
will develop. |
