Artist description
Synthesizers, samplers, music, melody, and thought provoking lyrics come together in ceaven's uniquely experimental blend of electronica. Mixing dance music, trip-hop, and synth-pop sounds, has resulted in what can only be described as "synth-hop," the meshing of all machines electronic. Ceaven's varied style will surely intrigue any first time listener. His catchy choruses, eclectic sounds, and straight-foward vocal style will keep them coming back for more. |

Artist History
Was it the gloomy weather of Syracuse, NY, or was it sharing a birthday with Ian Curtis of Joy Division that inspired ceaven's early works? Probably both. He formed his first band, Love is Blind, with high school friend Chris Kuryla, in 1990. Ceaven sought to reproduce the early synth-pop sounds of bands like OMD, and Kraftwerk. However, Chris' influences would take a stronghold upon ceaven's songwriting. The acid-house movement of the late 80's slowly filtered into their sound. By 1991, the two had renamed the new dance oriented project to Digital Masters of Love (DMOL). The name had quite a bit of signifigance for the duo. DMOL not only payed homage to the synth-pop heritage of Love is Blind, but it also lay tribute to early synth-pop pioneers OMD (DMOL backwards is Love OMD). After a brief stint of successful gigs through-out Upstate New York and into Canada, the two started to receive label interest. The song which led to DMOL's initial success was primarily the melodic and surreal VF-24 (a dream). Their first demo captured the attention of several industry up-and-comers and fans alike. Some of them included Moby, Orbital, Vapourspace, Darren Price, FFRR records and the burgeoning, underground dance scene. In 1994, with increased demand for live shows a third member, Chris Mehalso, was added to the line up. Mehalso shared an interest in collecting vintage synthesizers and electronics with both ceaven and Kuryla, introducing the classic sound of the Minimoog to their live shows and recordings. With ever growing interest in their records, DMOL decided to release their first full length album "Outside In" on their own Electronic Projects Lab label. Co-produced by Mehalso and ceaven, the album was both a critical and a financial success, selling-out the entire first run of production. In late 1995, ceaven went to London to promote the band and experience the already healthy electronic dance scene. While there, the demo caught the attention of both Paul Hartnol of Orbital and Bjork. Returning in late 1996 with a head full of inspiration, ceaven decided to pursue the down-tempo side of electronic music that was emerging from the London club scene. These new ideas led him to a new local, the warmer climate and better weather of Los Angeles, CA. In 2000, ceaven and fellow electronic artist, Paul Nurminen, formed MixElektro records. The internet only label has provided a successful means of promoting, distributing and releasing it's unique blend of electronics. Ceaven continues to work on his latest mesh of trip-hop, dance and synth-pop electronic music. |

Press Reviews
"Nice beginning!! Snappy synths, solid percussion. The lyrics rock ("now I'm falling through a hole in the sky which burns my skin")! This sounds a bit like "Your Woman." (by White Town)... the lyrics are close. It also reminds me a little bit of New Order. "Multiple" just rocks all over. And now, because you are reading this review, you MUST download this song. You have absolutely NO choice!! :)" -HitSessions.com |
