Artist History
At the age of six, Brandon Sky almost drowned. At the age of 12, he wrote his first love song, just a few feet from where his family had plucked him out of the Baltic Sea. Over the course of the ten years that have followed, Brandon has developed an affecting style as vast and epic as the waters that once tried to claim him. If the songs of Brandon Sky seem to be informed by a world of influence and experience, it's with good reason. Born to a large, nomadic family, he had spent time in Latvia, Ukraine, Austria and many points between before settling in Canada. All the while, he has absorbed music voraciously. The result is a sound that pays specific tribute to nothing, but holds the warm familiarity of many a great artist. Brandon is , first and foremost, a lover of pop music. Songs such as "Unchain Your Door" and "The Flame We Could've Been" strive for, and attain, the unabashed accessibility of some of the art form's greatest modern masters. At the heart of Brandon's songs is a sweeping, lyrical romanticism, creating a whole that any listener will agree is simply incomparable. Brandon's unique vocal textures which also don't belie his trans-global upbringing are the result of years spent under the instruction of such vocal greats as Paul Cooper (formerly of the Nylons) and Ian Garrett, who taught Shania Twain. Brandon is also an accomplished instrumentalist, arranger & producer, being responsible for almost every note played on his debut, self-titled CD. Brandon says that he "believes in the healing powers of music," and that he is determined to have his music "touch others in a special way, let them know that they are not alone." These recordings, the first of many, succeed in doing exactly that. |
