Artist History
My love for music started at the age of 8, when I began playing the piano. At the time I had no conception of notes or chords, so I pasted sticky paper notes on the keys with numbers and began writing songs. My parents wern't to happy with me ruining the piano keys, so they got me lessons, which I took for about 5 months until my teacher left. Having these lessons gave me an understanding of notes, so I no longer need sticky pads :) Then after enjoying playing the violin in fourth grade, I took up the cello. Because my family has a history of musicians I had no problem picking it up, but was told that I would not exceed past a grade school level, because I used a different bow hold, and had a different style of practicing. I played the cello at the top of my class all the way up to my freshman year in high school, to the amazment of a lot of teachers. During my freshman year I lost intrest playing the cello, partly because of the breakdown my teacher was having, and an intrest to explore new styles of music. Going back a little, I wrote my first song in fith grade, called "the variety show" for our school variety show. It was also the last song I have written on the piano. When I started middle school I began writing lyrics more often, and soon found my self captivated to writing lyrics to other famous songs, like Wierd Al. Then I met Paul, a good friend, whos dad owned a recording studio, so I figured I would give writing my own music a try again. During that summer I wrote many songs, but two stood out above the rest, unfortunatly, I lost the songs, and tey only remain partially in my head. In the year of 1996, I picked up the guitar. My mom had bought it years back in a garage sale for five dollars, and my brother had brought it back to life from the deep deep depths of the storage closet. At first I started playing only the top three strings and then I moved to the low e string and wrote one note songs. Well, after this drove my dad nuts enough, he got me guitar lessons, which I took for a few months, and learned the basic chords of guitar. Then I had a year of writing songs and just playing, till I had the oppurtunity to take more guitar lessons. This time I learned the notes and even some styles of guitar playing. Then after a few moths those lessons ended, and I again was left writing a new style of songs. Than I think about 6 monts later, my dad got me lessons again, and began playing old rock and blues songs. This is how I developed a even greater ear for music. Finally on July 5, 2000, I sat down and began to record. My first recorded song, "This is were we should not go", was actually written 3 or 4 days before hand, and does not represent my typical music style, but I enjoyed recording it, and I hope you enjoy listening to it :) |
