    Artist History
Beatsteaks were formed in Berlin in the Summer of 95 playing their first show amidst a mass mess of kinder schnitzel, custard, jelly and ice cream at a huge school party. They had to break into the tuckshop for their rider. In the Autumn of 95, when the most kids their age were back in the classrooms, Beatsteaks were busy recording their first demo, imaginatively entitled „Beatsteaks – die Erste“, on a four track system which went on to sell over 1.000 copies in the following months.A year later, August 96, the Beatsteaks won a live-show competition. The prize turned out to be a support slot for the Sex Pistols and Shelter in the Berlin Arena. That was the 10th show the band ever played.During January and February of 97, the Beatsteaks recorded their debut album entitled „48/49“. The album title was the house number of their practice room.During May 97, the band embarked on their first full length tour of Germany to support the release of „48/49“ on XNO Records. Around 600 people turned up for the release party in Berlin.“48/49“ caused quite a stir among the German press and punk scene. The band were busy playing shows during the Summer of 97, supporting Faith No More, Dog Eat Dog, Bloodhound Gang and Lagwagon. The Bloodhound Gang offered them a support slot for their full European tour which the Beatsteaks had to turn down. They did however play 18 shows with Lagwagon, who took them as special guests after playing three shows with them in the Benelux. The Beatsteaks also played their first festival, the Munster Monster Skate Mastership.Towards the end of the year, the Beatsteaks were voted best and most interesting act from Berlin by over 300 journalists and promoters.During 98 the band went on tour with Thumb and 59 Times The Pain as well as their own 5 week tour. They also played on the Monsters Of Hauptstadt Tour with Mad Sin and Terrorgruppe, playing to over 1.000 capacity venues.More than 5.000 people watched them at their 100th show during the Fête De La Musique in Berlin. The Beatsteaks played on the Fatstage at the Bizarre Festival in front of more than 7.000 people.Epitaph stepped and signed the band after hearing the new demo they recorded with Uwe Sabirowsky (Thumb, Mad Sin). The band then went on to record their new album, now known as Launched with Uwe Sabirowsky in their hometown of Berlin before jetting off to New York to master the record with Howie Weinberg at Masterdisc.
