Artist History
Back in 1981 or so, a young man with two years of training in orchestral cello begged his father for a bass guitar for his birthday. This made sense to him, for everyone else in the neighborhood had regular 6-string guitars, and you can't start a band without a bass, and besides, he was used to having only four strings to work with. "No," his father said. "No one gets anywhere playing the bass. You'll get a regular guitar and like it." While generous of him, it still left the boy traumatized and disappointed. Still, he applied himself to the guitar with the same effort he applied toward the cello, and over the years he became fairly good at it. Then the boy grew to a young man and, unsure of his identity and role in society, he joined the armed forces. Somewhat disoriented, he severed many ties with his former life including (but not limited to) selling every musical instrument he owned. Over the years he grew to regret this but failed to find inspiration to start playing again, his teen angst having been left behind long ago in favor of a more grown up general depression. But nearly 10 years after foregoing all things musical, he made some friends that played music and got the bug bad enough to play again. Together they jammed, and made some really bad music. Yet occassionally something fell together very well, and they were jazzed and content. Sadly, these friends soon moved on to other things, leaving our now not-so-young man to play with himself (or "by himself" if you have a dirty mind). This eventually lead to the expenditure of large sums of money to replace the talented musicians he had so enjoyed working with with drum machines, computers, more guitars, and multitrack recorders. Off and on through the several years since, our now getting-close-to-geezer has attempted to recreate the music and feelings he experienced when working with other actual people. |
