Artist History
“ I saw first light in Lubbock, Texas; The family didn’t stay long. Then too many towns in Oklahoma, to know where to call home...”These first few lines, from Aubrey Teeter’s song “Wanderin’ Soul”, neatly sums up his youth. Born in Lubbock, Texas in 1960, his family moved to Oklahoma when he was only three months old. And moved. And moved. And then moved some more. The talented songwriter and vocalist grew up in an environment strongly influenced by music. Aubrey’s father, to keep three young boys out of trouble while on family trips, would sing the songs of his favorite country artist, Hank Williams. His mother, who loved Elvis, would turn on the radio and also encourage her sons to sing.By the age of five, with his Roy Roger guitar firmly in hand, Aubrey knew that more than anything else, he wanted to be an entertainer. Cutting his teeth on those early sounds of true country and rock ‘n roll, he set out at a young age to share his dream with the world.Entertaining audiences all through highschool, along with his twin brother, Aubrey sang every chance he got. From local television shows, to the Oklahoma Opry, the two were a powerful duet and successful stage act. After graduation, Aubrey enrolled and attended Oklahoma City University, majoring in Vocal Performance. He began performing in college Opera’s and Musicals, and acted in lead roles at local Community Theaters. His strength in music grew as he developed his talents by singing lead vocal in Country Rock and Top 40 Bands, and as an entertainer with Opryland on the Road. After college Aubrey made the next logical move, to Nashville, getting into the business side of music for most of the 12 years he lived there. He went on the road for two years with Pearl River, as stage manager. Worked with Alan Jackson’s management company, and finally as a Song Plugger on Music Row.While still pursuing his own music career, Aubrey shared the stage, and shared guitars, with such artists as Garth Brooks, Guy Clark, Vern Gosdin, Bryan White, Pearl River, Toby Keith, and Reece Wilson, just to name a few. With vision and simplicity, this sensitive young man reached into his soul, and found a love of writing. Aubrey honed his songwriting skills by writing with, and learning from, some of the most well known names in Country Music. “I write and sing about the things I know about, the things I love,” Aubrey says. “My songs are a part of me, they are real life for me. Each song has a special meaning.”Arriving back in Texas, in 1997, Aubrey has come full circle to where it all began for him. Finding the Texas music scene alive with promise for original singer/songwriters, he has already made a name for himself. Playing regularly with such artists as Ronnie Spears, Brian Burns, Gary P. Nunn, Chris Walls, Houston Marchman, and R.D. Foster he has established himself firmly into the Texas Music scene. Most recently, using the technical skills aquired in Nashville, he produced an album for Texas newcomer, Jackson Tucker. As Aubrey now sings his original music, the words he sings and the powerful voice behind them, silences crowds and finally has given him the satisfaction he always knew was waiting for him. |
