Artist History
The Johnny O. Band was formed after John left Band Du Jour, a popular national touring band based in Boulder. The echoes of Band Du Jour's groove rock sound can be heard in such JOB tunes as Sunship and River In The Sky. Since then, John Has turned his attention to the Blues. When Band Du Jour broke up, John split to Mexico for three months. While in Mexico he heard of a blues band in his hometown of Carbondale, Colorado that needed a guitarist. So, he returned to the States and took up position fronting the 12:Bar Flies. The 12:Bar Flies were a well established bar band that had tons of gigs around the Roaring Fork valley in the mountains of Colorado. After a year of playing with the 12:Bar Flies, Johnny O. felt it was time to take that experience back to Boulder and start his own group. John's new band released their first CD, entitled The Johnny O. Band in the fall of 1997. It featured the band's most popular music and included five Johnny O. originals. The CD was well received and sold well over a thousand copies, most of which were sold at the band's live performances. The band played over one hundred and fifty live performances in 1999 and has developed into a tight and hard hitting blues ensemble. Johnny O. is accompanied by a dynamic rhythm section that features John Tendell on the bass and Gerald "Swoosh" Sanchez on the drums. Bruce Delaplain plays piano and organ on the CD and also sits in on occasional live performances, as does James Torres another great local keyboard player. In the fall of 1999 it was time for the band to go back to the studio and lay down their second album. River in the Sky, which was recorded at Valley West Studios in Paonia, Colorado, features ten new Johnny O. originals plus a classic Albert King cover. These sessions capture clearly the same intensity and energy that the band displays at every live performance. Thanks for visiting us at MP3.com.
