Artist History
Sleaze was formed in the late summer of 1998 when Jeff Ward (drums) and Gene Zdybowicz (bass) decided to start a band. Their aim was to create music that unites the distinguishing sounds of metal and hardcore. With musical influences such as the Deftones, Vision of Disorder, Hatebreed, Snapcase, Pantera, Soulfly, Zao and a wide range of others, they knew the type of sound they were looking for. Gene turned to an old friend, Josh Smith, to play guitar. They met each other back in Junior High school when Gene moved into a house on Josh’s street. They have been in a band together prior to Sleaze, but it was nothing serious.Finding a talented vocalist was the tough part. Amazing poet and High School friend, Joe Miles, joined the band when Josh invited him to try out for a vocalist. “Joe was the last person on earth we wanted to see, let alone be in a band with. We never got along in high school.” -Gene & Jeff.A second guitarist would fill out the bands sound and allow for more diversity in music. The position was taken by metalhead Vinnie Mai. His talent lies in the ability to write the “tough” guitar parts which grew to define the bands sound.Since the formation of the band, which was first called "Enterage", Sleaze has been constantly growing musically. In the Buffalo area, they are one of the youngest bands playing in the scene, the oldest being only 20. Sleaze’s style has developed into what can be described as aggressive metalcore with intense smash-breakdowns that literally drop the crowd to the ground. Jeff and Gene dropped out of the band after diffrent factors. Andy, the new bass player that replaced Gene was found surfing the net by Josh. Also found by Josh was the new drummer that lived and an incovient distance away from the rest of the band, but managed to stick around. |
