Artist History
Formed in 1996, Slow Children at Play (SCAP) has energetically bounced over hurdles that have stopped many local bands in their tracks. As a cover band, the unique sound of SCAP caught on quickly with local audiences and thus prompted SCAP to begin writing their own songs. In mid 1998, the members of SCAP began work on the ambitious project known as Someone Just Called and Complained. The early 1999 relase of Someone Just Called and Complained thrust SCAP into the local limelight, which eventually led them to open on tour for Stroke 9 (Cherry Entertainment/Universal Records). The opportunity was presented to SCAP due to a large amount of national support. In the summer of 2000, SCAP was asked to play at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater(FBJA) in Peachtree City, GA to open for Helen Reddy. For two nights, SCAP played to sold out crowds of over 3,000 people. Three days later, the FBJA asked to sponsor SCAP in Peachtree City's Fourth of July Parade, one of the largest parades in the Atlanta metro area. Not two weeks later, the City of Fayetteville asked SCAP to open for the Swingin' Medallions at the city's July Jam. Other notable performances have been BIDfest, Cinemark Corporation's Tinseltown 17, the City of Griffin's May Fling, Jitterbugger's Teen Club, Sunshine's Playland Teen nights, and public appearances on behalf of a Superior Court Judge and a state representative. As the world has been evolving into the Digital Age, SCAP has been evolving as well. To date, SCAP has been featured on more than 35 Internet radio stations and has been in the top 10 on multiple Internet music charts. Back in the real world, SCAP has been featured in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Peachtree Citizen, The Fayette Neighbor, Griffin Daily News, and This Week in Peachtree City. Even FM radio stations have started picking up on the fans interest in SCAP. FM stations 99.7 and 88.5 in Georgia, KWBU 107.1 in Texas, KCDU 97.5 in Canada, and Radio Disney have put SCAP on the air. Other affiliations include College Television Network and Van Melle Corporation (Mentos). SCAP recently released their sophomore album Let's Kick This Thing. The new album has already produced two hits and is steadily gaining popularity. SCAP is also making a noticeable impression on the Internet being mentioned or featured on over 25 different websites. The current line-up includes Christian Jolly on vocals and guitar, Don Lambing on bass guitar, Eric Henson on percussion, Dude on trumpet, Jon Brown on keyboard, Mike Coloney on trumpet, and Corv on tenor sax. |
