“Nathan, one of Ontario’s most respected luthiers and musicians, combines with Linda’s rich voice to present a cross-section of traditional songs. With years of experience in finding tunes, arranging and performing, they consistently present musical gems stamped with an air of tradition and originality. Artist History
LINDA MILLER AND NATHAN CURRYLinda and Nathan met in the Ottawa folk scene of the seventies and renewed contact performing in the Great Wave Tours of Canada’s west coast in 1991 and 1992. Forming a duo in 1993, they continued their annual B.C. tours, were chosen by the Canadian government to play at the Celebrate Canada Festival in Tel Aviv in 1994 and appear regularly across Ontario and Quebec. Their repertoire includes traditional Celtic material, songs from the Ottawa Valley, Appalachian, Breton and French songs, swing tunes and original material.Nathan Curry’s passion for music is expressed in all possible areas. As a performer, he has played folk festivals across Ontario and major venues in the Ottawa area, either solo or with Wickentree, Six Mile Bridge and Dog’s Breakfast: as a member of the Pierre Schryer Band he has toured across Canada, the northern U.S. and the British Isles; opened for Andy Irvine, Loreena McKennit and Garnet Rogers, among others; and is often in demand for recording projects. Eager to pass on his knowledge, he teaches, hosts weekly sessions and gives workshops through M.A.S.C. Artists in the Schools Program with Linda and James Stephens. Combining theatre and music, he has written and performed with the G.C.T.C. (Ottawa), the Mulgrave Road Co-op Theatre (Nova Scotia) and Rag and Bone Puppet Theatre, based in Ottawa. Having mastered the playing of many stringed instruments, Nathan apprenticed with master luthier Dominic Zuchowicz and now is a respected luthier in his own right, custom building violins, citterns, mandolins and guitars, all of which are used in his performances.Linda Miller’s versatile voice led her to become a prominent member of the local music scene based on Hornby Island B.C. in the eighties. She sang with the Hornby Island Madrigal Singers, the Hornby Balkan Trio and the women’s trio Short and Sweet, performing mainly country music and songs from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. As a solo artist, she appeared with well-known jazz musician Bill Smith, was featured as a swing singer at the Hornby Midsummer Festival and made numerous appearances at the Filberg Festival in Comox, as well as various area venues.Returning to Ottawa, she is distilling these influences into her work with Nathan Curry, as well as having performed with Ian Tamblyn and the Celtic trios Triskele and Mackenzie King’s Dog, with Fresh Produce at the Stephen Leacock Awards ceremony and frequent guest appearances with Pierre Schryer. |

Press Reviews
"Curry is a superior musician in the best sense of the word. Equally at home with the fiddle and various plucked instruments, he brings a rare verve and sense of spontaniety to his impressively precise musicianship... Miller has a lovely voice, equally at home on traditional material... or more adventurous offerings... When you combine Miller's singing with Curry's songwriting, great instrumental backings and a few dance tunes, you have the makings of a fine recording."Charles de Lint: THe Canadian Folk Music Bulletin |
