    Press Reviews
The following is a review of Drop Shadow's debut CD "Blue". Written by Robert Thompson. A pounding, soothing sensation slowly enters the aura of your being, relaxing, wavering; then a deafening explosion of catastrophic proportions rips through your senses with a fury that is beyond words, hurtling you into oblivion. Enter the world of Drop Shadow. An intense, emotional journey rife with plenty of unexpected twists & turns, a melange of artistic creativity that will re-instill the listener's faith in a band that is both, truly original and honest.Seamlessly melding the genres of emo, hardcore, and techno into their sound, Drop Shadow emerges as an amalgamation of Radiohead, Stabbing Westward, Further, and Far; a powerfully unique and dynamic creation. Moody, atmospheric harmonics resonate with an ethereal presence as the tempo is constantly shifting between lingering depressed anguish and sharpened moods of furious anger, carousing throughout the diverse & complex song structures with confidence and masterful group cohesion. The sound reverberates with sleek feedback and a slight distortion, overall excellent production despite being recorded, mixed, engineered, and produced by the band them selves within their own private studio. Effortlessly weaving an intricate collage of undulating, shadowy riffs, gloomy bass lines, and elaborate drum work, it is the interweaving of samples, keyboards and electronic percussion that dominates, adding a certain emo-metallic vibe to Drop Shadow's sound that propels their presence to an upper echelon. Utilizing the vocal talents of frontman Ben Petry and backing vocals of Tim Kindberg, Drop Shadow immerses the listener in a wave of drowning emotion. Beautiful harmonics pulse and shiver with unrestrained intensity, swaying from melodious singing in the vein of Far or Radiohead to frightening hardcore screams reminiscent of Glassjaw, all the while, haunting wails and moans in the background add even greater depth to the atmospheric climate. An honest, open approach collides with powerful lyrics and stimulating musical background to create a powerful soul-awakening experience for listeners everywhere. The latest release from the Cincinnati industrial/emocore band, "Blue" is a dense, cathartic journey into the depths of masterful songwriting and visionary creation. Featuring nine songs of pure harmonic bliss, "Blue" is like one long concept album. Rather than relying on individual songs, it is a collection of songs that seem to feed off of each other, continuously progressing a story through an epic, ballad-like saga. From the more tempo-contrasted approach of "Needles", "Hide and Seek", "Nothing Left", and "Scattered" to the more impassioned & melodious "Fade Away" and "Something New", Drop Shadow weaves an engaging tale of emotional dissonance. With the exception of "Blue Track 1 & 2 (two experimental, instrumentals), and "Shut (I)", (a Stabbing Westward-induced fast-paced techno song), the songs found on "Blue" are long, diverse, and thoroughly fascinating. Consisting of varied, eclectic personalities, influences and talents, Drop Shadow fuses these various elements into a maelstrom of sonic ingenious, interweaving overwhelming emotional release with dynamic songwriting, progressing musicianship, impassioned determination, and a unique visionary approach that will simply astound the listener. Waves of sound that resonate beyond the normal harmonic landscape will intrude upon the listener, forcing them to not only hear the music, but to feel it in the very marrow of their bones, the inner depths of their soul. A sound so loud, so deafening, only through complete immersion may the listener truly understand the experience that Drop Shadow's music will evoke.Final Score: 8.25 out of 10. -------------------- "I have heard rumors left and right about how awesome these guys are, and how they put on such a powerful show. Well, that is no longer a rumor, at least for me anyway. Let me tell you somethin? folks. This is honestly the first band that I have seen locally that doesn?t sound like some other band. These guys have an emotionally heavy industrial sound, which not only brings out the hard-core fans but also the fans of the growing Cincity "emo-core" scene. Just by watching Drop Shadow you can see that they work very hard at critiquing their music. Their timing is perfect, their punches are hard, and the large crowd that follows them around can never seem to get enough. These guys may be young but they have every bit of respect they could possibly muster from me. You can even see the artistic values these men posses. They used two monitors hooked up to a VCR and had edited video footage all the way from Voltron to the Vietnam War that went along perfect with their songs. Let?s hope the creativity only grows from here on out, these are the kinds of things we need to see more often. I was completely blown away and surprised to say the least. Drop Shadow is on my top 12 list, now if I could only get a copy of the "now rumored" demo?" Eli Chrom (GNAP)
