Press Reviews
Doomsday Kult/COMPLEX MACHiNE. by eatmag.com The Complete DDK.- A to Z (18-track CD-R, mixed at Doomsday Studios, 55:07) Chuck the old cassettes, heres the digital remasters- boosted and booming for that spine-shiverin surge of somber synth-pop. Culled from their Dark Days Ahead and Produkt of My Environment back catalog, N.O.D. are one of the few local digi-tech acts to actively pursue darkwave and coldwave formations. While most of their earlier tracks have that unstoppable, hyper-BPM motivation, they still slip in the offbeat vocal sample or unnerving squiggle. If only to serve notice to DJs that N.O.D. are quite capable of deconstructing and recombining their own works, the tracks from Produkt are much more developed, realized, and then extended. Even taking a poke at themselves for the mindless raving of Pinhead Mix, DDK are much broader conceptualists, using the dirge-y sound collages of This Kind of Evil and P.2. Brite as stronger evolvement for future works. Those listeners seeking a band that can lapse from Alphaville to Rammstein to Eno (with a few tracks outside those boundaries) need to check this comp out. |
