Press Reviews
from The Orange and Blue Newspaper:"Crash Pad plays three-chord progression punk rock reminiscent of NakedRaygun, Social Distortion and Pegboy. Highlightedby crunchy riffs, solos, sing-alongs and pick slides, Crash Pad has atougher sound than the recent Gen-X bubblegum punknovelties. Cut from a gritty cloth, the band performs timeless ditties aboutgirls and perseverance."Joshua Krause, A & E Ed., Jan. 10-18 edition, 2000from WorldWidePunk.com:Crash Pad - Nine Minutes of Pleasure (Demo-CD)"Gainesville Florida's Crash Pad recently released this 3-song 9-minute CDas a teaser for their (hopefully) upcomingfull-length album. It all starts off with a pretty standard goofy punk rocklove song called Emergency Gurl which seems to takeinfluence from the Ramones, or even legendary Canuck punks The Wet Spots.Anyway, the second song takes on a moreserious tone with an increasingly distorted sound. Fits in quite well with asong titled Down on Me, doesn't it? Yes. Finishing itoff is their most unique and experimental tune, Spanish Moss. This one iseasily my favourite on the CD. In fact, each song onthis CD gets progressively better. Spanish Moss still has that fuzzed-outpunk rock sound, but with some really neat echoeyguitar sounds that are as if someone is stabbing the guitar with a knife.Different, yet quite good. The vocal and instrumentsharing this band does also tends to keep things energetic and differentthroughout. Good stuff."Reviewed by Vic: August 16, 1999Crash Pad has been described by local newspaper the Gainesville Sun as"Gainesville's long-running, hard-working,old-school punks." ("Sound Check" column, Pat Hughes, 9/17/99.) The editorof local alternative newspaper Moon Magazine, writing for the website GNV.yourvillage.com in June 2000, described CrashPad as "Melodic and raw, through various line upchanges Crash Pad has been a mainstay of local music." ("Crash Pad PerformsTonight," Colin Whitworth, 6/12/00.) TheG-Note webpage, in 1999, called Crash Pad "one of Gainesville's only punkbands." Local entertainment magazine Chompsays "Crash Pad brings back the punk flavor Gainesville is missing" and"definitely recommend[s]" checking out Crash Pad.(October 1999 Local Scene column.) |
