    Artist description
Avatar is a hard hitting, diverse Modern Alternative Rock band blending a range of music styles into a unique new hybrid sound. "Avatar is the epitome of the South African alt.rock band, combining the best of ska, power-pop, punk, reggae and grunge into a dynamic, sphincter curling sound. (SL Magazine)" The band writes songs about topics rarely or never covered before or reflects on life from different angles than the norm and all this is revealed in their lyrics ranging from the disturbingly serious to humorously eccentric. Since inception, they have built up a loyal cult following through their demos, albums and live performances (which have been described as a mixture of power and passion).

    Press Reviews
Taking the very best of modern rock and playing it with the integrity of classic rock...The delivery is smoother than a pick up line in a singles' bar.Rich vocals, precision guitar, granite solid rhythms; all captured within the unforgettable songs. The emotion is so deep it scars the soul, the fun is in such abundance that Disneyland is considering opening up an AVATAR-kingdom, and the rock n' roll flows with Mississippi-like magnitude. Hailing from South Africa this band is probably isolated enough that it might take the masses awhile to discover them, so get in while the cover charge is low because these boys are going to do great things. Reviewed by: Jeb Branin The Crass Menagerie & In Music We Trust (USA) Local band Avatar received rave reviews from music critics and judging from the audience's response this band is set to rule the airwaves.Like the veritable Pied Piper, Avatar's powerful sound lured people to the Black Label Fleapit stage. New meaning was given to the word "infestation" as the frenzied turmoil of the crowd moshing and dancing while bathed in the glow of the stage light, made them appear, just for the moment, like a myriad of tiny fleas on the shaggy pelt of a huge dog. Reporter: Nanieve Groenewald Publication: Vaal Ster On the Black Label Fleapit stage, Avatar gets hard. New heaviness for the next millenium, seducing the crowd with the sheer power and frenzy of their sound" Reporter: Miles Keylock Publication: 24.com
