Artist History
Polina Nikiforova was born in 1986 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Since 1994 she has lived with her family in Switzerland. Polina's extraordinary gift with the violin was recognized early and encouraged. Already at the age of five she entered the school for musically gifted children in St. Petersburg. She first received instruction in violin; then one year later began piano.Since 1995 Polina has taken lessons with Emilie Haudenschild, concert master of the Basel Symphony Orchestra and first violin of the Erato Quartet. At the age of twelve she appeared in her first solo orchestra concert and gave her debut recital, including a CD recording.Her career has been marked with success: In 1998 the Kiwanis International awarded her the first prize in the Young Musicians' Competition. She was also chosen to play in the "Zürich Tonhalle" on the occasion of the "Jecklin Musiktreffen." In the same year she was the youngest artist to receive the second prize in the Swiss Young Musicians' Competition - this time as a pianist.Her success continued in 1999: first prize with distinction in the Swiss Young Musicians' Competition with an appearance in the Zürich Festival; first prize in the "Concorso Musicale" in Scopello/Stresa, Italy; diploma in the International Violin Competition of the German Hohenlohe Foundation; sponsorship prize from the Radisson SAS Hotel of Basel for her performance of Bruch's Violin Concerto; a stipendium from the Dr. Robert and Lina Thyll-Duerr Foundation; and finally a grant with stipendium from the Fritz Gerber Foundation for gifted young people.Polina Nikiforova has appeared in concerts in Switzerland, Russia, Germany and Italy. Her many accomplishments have been portrayed in television and radio. She has also been invited by radio station DRS2 to participate in a production for the Forum of Young Performers. |
