    Artist History
Formed in the winter of 1993, Jah Works quickly claimed the distinction of being notjust the best reggae band in the Baltimore/Washington club scene, but being one ofits best live acts, period. Jah Works' first release, "Feast or Famine" (1994) took thearea by storm with an original approach and vision for the future that was unparalleled. Their second release, "Send The Rain" (1996) was mixed by the esteemed dub pioneerScientist, and quickly brought Jah Works to the next level with its mixture of 70's styleproduction and 90's and beyond musical message. Necessity is the mother of invention, and Jah Works released both "Feast" and "Send The Rain" on their own label, Riddim House Productions. In May of 1998, Riddim House released Jah Works' third project, "Taking Off Tomorrow", and sold 2,000 copies in the first month. With sales of all three albums totalling 17,000 units, Riddim House and Jah Works have already begun the work of a conventional label on their own. If you are judged by the company you keep, Jah Works must be doing something right. Over the last five years, they have played on stages with such reggae luminaries as Burning Spear, Third World, Isreal Vibration, Big Youth, Toots and the Maytals, Yellowman, Eek-A-Mouse, Culture, Anthony B and Capleton, just to name a few. Their unique sound has also enabled them to share bills with other kinds of artist, such as Ben Harper, Stevie Wonder, Live, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, John Scofield and the Pharcyde. With solid reviews in Billboard, The Beat and Reggae Report, Jah Works has already been endorsed as a viable candidate for national success. Up and down the East Coast, they average some 300 shows a year, have been voted "Best Reggae Act" three years running by the 100,000 readers of Maryland Music Monthly, and continue to sell out each and every home appearance. Jah Works' third album "Taking Off Tomorrow" has drawn from the band's strengths of reggae, R&B, jazz and soul to help push their musical vision to a broader audience. Recorded and mixed by Jim Fox in under a month at Lion & Fox Studios, this release presents the group's most mature and refined songwriting to date and gives them a springboard to the day when they will bridge the gap between their successful East Coast touring and wider national and international exposure.
