Artist description
All KIWI................All ORIGINAL 280z hails from the underground original scene in New Zealand. A warm, strong, melodic feel with a solid rhythm. Influenced by a wide variety of music, from the haunting sounds of The Cranberries to the classic Pink Floyd buzz. 280z creates and carries it's own lingering, emotive tunes through to the listener where it remains and leaves an everlasting impression. 280z members Dave & Alana formed the band in June of 1999 and have since been thoroughly enjoying life as NZ musicians. Down in a beautiful and magical City called Nelson, 280z came to be. Dave and Alana came together like mashed potatoes and peas at a salad bar, while studying Contemporary Music Performance at the wonderful Nelson School of Music. With the wisdom and guidance of the talented and somewhat witty Course Co-Ordinator Warryn Bermingham, 280z began a journey. Little did they know that this journey would be a roller coaster ride full of emotions and heartache but still they power it out. 280z have recently been gigging in Nelson, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. Although they prefer to keep it all original they do play and enjoy performing covers by artists such as: Radiohead, No Doubt, Alanis, The Cranberries, Garbage, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Match Box 20, and the Eurhythmics. To name but a few. P.S. Willing to relocate anywhere in the world |

Press Reviews
Press ReleaseIssued Wednesday February 7, 2001280z release 5-track CDAuckland band 280z have just released their independent five track, self named CD. The band’s members, Alana Page and Dave Salmon, are both graduates of the Nelson School of Music and have been playing together just over a year now, performing at the Temple in Auckland, all around Wellington, and down in Nelson.Favourably reviewed by NZ Musician, the duo provide a new expression of the abundant musical talent available here in New Zealand. Inspired by the sounds of The Cranberries, Pink Floyd, No Doubt and Matchbox 20, their acoustic rock is inspirational and soulful. So Over You, and Fallen start the CD beautifully with wonderful lyrics and singing from vocalist Alana. The No Doubt influenced Draw Attention rides through the middle of the album as the energy picks up before No time To Forget, a down tempo, more relaxing piece of music, slows things down. Beautiful harmonies and acoustic guitar give this song a strong Celtic feeling. Finally, in a surprise track, the tongue in cheek titled dance track Music Is My Drug (written and arranged by David Edlin) rocks the album through to it’s outro. The CD is available direct from 280z and will also soon be available via student web site Varsity.co.nz, who are selling the CD with no mark-up as part of their initiative to support and promote local musicians. Those wanting a taste of what this talented duo have to offer can also check them out at www.mp3.com/280z. |
