Artist History
The band named The Student Painters (TSP) was formed in the spring of 2000. The group is an (emo, lo-fi, post-punk, and math rock influenced) indie rock band from Indiana, Pennsylvania……….
The core of the band has been performing together in various incarnations since 1996, adding Mike Pardee as a second guitarist in early 2000, culminating in the modest five-song demo EP, the “snow follows sun follows snow” EP, recorded during March, 2001 at Subterranean Homesick Studios……….
Guitarist Mike Pardee left the band in the summer of 2001 and was replaced by Doug Tangren. In doing so, the group was revitalized and has progressed toward a more energetic, multi-layered, angular-guitar-driven rock format. Doug's noticeable addition to the band is evident in the follow-up “no solace in silence” EP, recorded on the afternoon of May 16, 2002 at Mud-hut Studios in Sharon, PA…..…..
Their performance history includes appearances in festivals, fairs, clubs, bars, and college campuses across Pennsylvania. The Student Painters have had the honor of sharing stages with many great acts, including Christiansen (Eulogy Recordings), Tabula Rasa (One Day Savior), The Interns, Hooray! For Everything (Missing Words), Teenage Girls, No On 15 (Jumpstart Records), Twirpentines, Giving Chase, The Pseudo-Heroes, Broken Free (Burning Records), Alan Smithee Project, Space and Noise (Plinko Manor Records), A Week In July, Two Minute Minor (Recusant Records), 214 Spit, SF Fire Hydrant, and The Mad Cows (814 Records).
