Press Reviews
Close your eyes and you're apt to think it's Sting. Scot Taber has the same tonality and gentle tenor; he also has a similar love for blending disparate world beats. Taber's music integrates rhythms from India, Africa and the Middle East with an emo-techno ambience. An alumnus of jazz and flamenco, Taber grafts his musical background onto contemporary and classical elements. Helping out on bass, cello and backing vocals is David Hamilton, and Jo David Reyes assists with udu, cajon, bells, talking drum and other percussion instruments. Taber writes the songs, sings lead and plays the nylon-string guitar. His global curiosity keeps the music and songwriting alive and ever changing. -- Dylan Roberts, Digital City -------- Taber, whose previous efforts would be described as new age, jazz, and world flamenco guitar, has entered a new territory. This new CD takes a sharp turn and doesn't look back at his past. "Liminal" can best be described as a rock record with a touch of world beat. That's right - a rock record. What's even more surprising is Taber has now incorporated his vocal talents, something new for a Taber release. "Liminal" is not an in-your-face rock record, but more of a space-age, almost psychedelic journey. This sound is accomplished through the use of floating vocals, a constant drum rhythm, and occasional guitar effects. "Liminal" crosses new boundaries and shows the growth process in one of El Paso's own. --Liner Notes by Brian Chozick, EL Paso Scene |
