Musical Influences Many and varied

Artist History Formed in Dublin, Ireland in mid 92, matured in Vicenza, Italy, the band are now blooming in New York City. mrnorth are not overly concerned with the precarious status of music at the moment. Fronted by charismatic Colin Smith, the band is blazing their own trails with melodious and hard-hitting rock songs that are pervaded with intelligent melodies and original song structures. With influences as far ranging from Pink Floyd and Genesis to Jeff Buckley and U2, this young band have created a very original sound, and exhibit it with a tightness, agility and instinctiveness that only a band of four guys playing together for nine years could do. Bass player and multi instrumentalist Oisin O'Malley and drummer Adrian Mordaunt lay the foundation. Upon it is the delicate yet intense playing of guitarist Emmett O'Malley, whose guitar provides the sense of emotion for the band. Smiths brazen and falsetto voice pervades throughout as the band create some of the most creative and inspiring music of the day. The band formed some years ago when they were just teens. Immediately they had an effect and impact in hometown Dublin, and have always been ones to watch. They did their tour of duty on the Irish circuit, growing as individual musicians and adjusting to one another's style of playing. The band became a regular in the rich Irish scene. In the mid nineties they travelled to Italy for a trial recording session that was to last for two weeks; but the band fell in love with Italy, and stayed there on and off for two years developing their craft. They were released from thier contractual responsibilities in 1998, and were then ready to take on the rest of the World. After recieving very strong industry feed back on some songs that were featured on a BMI Planet Sound sampler. Plans were made to get the band showcased in the USA as soon as possible. In the spring of 1999 mrnorth's management showcased the band New York and the UK. They received a warm welcome. The band went back and toured Italy that summer before returning to Ireland briefly then going back to the USA for an extended bite at the big apple before deciding to move there, get some beer and smokes and go for it In the summer of 2000 mrnorth settled on a publishing deal with Warner Chappell music in New York moved there shortly after the ink was dry. mrnorth have been Gigging constantly and grabbing time to write and record since they set up home in NY. http://www.mrnorth.com for more info
