Artist History
Formed in 1995, as the brainchild of Detroit native Luttrell, Michigan Blacksnake's positive attitude and hard-work ethic (they played 111 shows in 1999!) have earned them a reputation as one of the most up & coming bands around. The band blends rock, soul, funk and reggae in such an accessible way that their appeal is universally ripe for anyone. This makes them an ideal draw at festivals, benefits and outdoor events: They play the Boston AIDS Walk annually, and recently donated time for the VH1 Save the Music and the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autistic kids; they have also entertained New England Patriots fans at several games at Foxboro Stadium. In 1999 the Blacksnake appeared at the "real" Woodstock 30th Reunion, at Yazgur's Farm in Bethel, NY alongside the legendary Buddy Miles, Leslie West, and Country Joe. They have also shared stages with De La Soul and rapper Biz Markie. |

Press Reviews
June 8, 2001...Michigan Blacksnake at the Middle East upstairs
For a good time call Michigan Blacksnake. What a fun, uplifting band. Whether venturing into Average White Band-like funk, Studio One-style reggae, or ecstatic R&B, this group delivered it all with consistent grooves and spirit. Top-notch saxophonist Gordon Beadle, who has been sitting in a lot lately, took it to an even higher dimension.

"... It was Michigan Blacksnake's turn to show off their Lenny Kravitz/Prince/Sly & the Family Stone brand of Funk. Greg Luttrell the lead singer/lead guitarist of the septet has the moves & voice to impress an audience. He has this great ability to let out a scream that takes on two notes at a time...when Karen Bell's luscious vocal's join in with Greg's the outcome leads to new aural highlights. The band is tight!" -

"This six piece delivered the Funk the Soul and the R&B to a packed house taking its audience on a musical journey that represented original music from their self titled CD along with finger lickin good renditions of Chaka Khan's "Tell Me Something Good", "Think" by 70's vocalist Lynn Collins and, "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder. If you were a true funk-head the night belonged to you. Michigan Blacksnake broke into the real funk, putting the big bang on Parliament's "Testify" with a strong delivery by guest vocalist Nephtaliem McCreary and one of my favorites Bootsy Collins' "Wind Me Up". If you are in need of the ultimate funk experience in Boston you may be lucky enough to catch Michigan Blacksnake.
