Artist History
Already an established performer, researcher and composer in the traditional music field, since 1991 Matt Seattle has focussed his attention on the Border Bagpipe Tradition. He is now increasingly recognised as a leading figure in the Border Piping revival. In 1995 he rediscovered the William Dixon Tune Book of 1733. The oldest known pipers' tune book in the British Isles, it is a remarkable record of a Border Piper's repertoire at a time when the tradition was at a creative peak, and establishes beyond doubt the individual character of this piping idiom. In 1999 DGM records released Matt's CD "Out Of The Flames" - Music for Border Bagpipes from 1733 to the present... an exhilarating bagpipe record, full of creative surprises, which plugs the Border piping tradition into the current of contemporary music making (review by William Marshall). In 2000 Matt was placed first in the prestigious Open Border Pipes competiton of the Lowland and Border Pipers Society in Edinburgh. |

Press Reviews
It really does seem, when one hears his playing, that the two loose ends of a piping tradition have been picked up and tied together again so that they are an unbroken thread once more.- The Bagpipe Society Newsletter Autumn 1998 |
