Artist description
Amy's poetry explores how landscapes, oftentimes Midwestern landscapes, affect the relationships of the people who work and live there. This dynamic is further complicated when those relationships evolve and soon break the stereotypes of what is expected from "traditional" societal, familial, and personal relationships. The constant struggle to maintain a balance between the land and its people, a daughter and her parents, and societal expectations and personal fulfillment oftentimes leads to a sense of hopelessness. Ultimately though, redemption is found through an unconditional acceptance of change and an appreciation for the present moment. |
