Artist History
Formed in 1990 as Stretch Armstrong. Released first tape ("Old School") in 1993. In 1994 changed spelling of name to "Stretsch Armstronng". Released "Lollygag". The single "Drool" hit #1 on local alternative station X-96 (KXRK). Changed name again in 1995 to Stretch Magnifico. Released 7-song live ep titled "The Lesser of Two Weevils". Toured west coast and midwest with Hepcat. Opened at home for bands like Bush, No Doubt, Everclear, etc. Changed name to "The Stretch Band" in 1997 and released our final album "Armstrong". "Old School" was recorded and mixed over three days in a tiny basement studio (8-track recorders rule!) in Hollywood, CA. This was waaay back in 1993. It was our first serious recording effort. At the time, Stretch's line-up was as follows:Darren Hutchison: Bass GuitarRachelle Jessee: Saxophone and VocalsLamont Lee: TromboneCurtis McKendrick: TrumpetRyan Ridges: KeyboardMike South: GuitarDave Thomas: Drums and percussionScott Van Wagenen: Lead Vocals and attitudeOur management at the time was the one-and-only "Ska" Bob Walter.Previous band members who helped write many of the songs on this album were (among others):Chris Thomas, Paul Browning, Gordon and Amy Cobb, Dierdre (I can't seem to remember her last name, dammit!) |
