BIOGRAPHY
According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, our ultimate goal in life is achieving a feeling of self-actualization. To do so however, we must first satisfy the needs of the physical, then safety, followed by love, which then leads to our esteem, and then finally a chance for self-actualization. Emotion is the key to satisfying our needs and driven by feelings such as love, anger, fright, joy, hope, or despair, we are able to conquer our fears, live our dreams and express the true inner beauty of our souls. An accurate personification of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is the band known as Spiritfall. Through Spiritfall, we are able to experience an embodiment of beauty, aggression, love & esteem, enabling us to confront our inner selves, and becoming everything we are capable of becoming.
A love for music and the desire to express oneself emotionally led three inspired and unique individuals to join forces as one, resulting in the origin of Spiritfall. The year was 1996, the location was Stockton, California, and the players were Anthony Stone (Vocals), Stefan Dekker (Drums), and Christian Spencer (Guitars). Following the birth of the band, Spiritfall began an ongoing evolution that would shape the spirit and essence of the band. However, it was not until the addition of bassist Ben Souza in 1999, and a relocation to Chico,, CA, that Spiritfall became whole and their journey could begin. "The musical connection that we have is amazing; everything is really positive,” claims Ben.
Derived from life itself, Spiritfall is much more than just a band creating music; they are a force, an entity, an emotion, and it is expressed through their values, their sound, their image, and their name. “Spiritfall is a representation of the downward turn of society, our value of human life, and beauty,” says guitarist Christian Spencer, adding that, “While our name represents what is wrong, our music is an expression of human spirit and beauty.” Combining elements of rock, emo, hardcore, and nu-metal, Spiritfall emerges as an ethereal collage of intense, emotional harmonics, enhanced by soulful melodies and heart-wrenching passions. “Spiritfall is emotion. We put ourselves into the music and make something so unbelievably beautiful you can’t help but connect to it. Every song we write is meant to give you an insight into our lives, our feelings, and us,” says Christian concluding that “Spiritfall is whatever you take from the music.”
Fueled by their creative desires and emotional longings, Spiritfall quickly recorded a 10-song CD in December 1999, only to realize that the band as a whole had progressed far beyond their original intentions. Driven by their ambitious visions & blooming talents, Spiritfall instead released a 6-song concept album in 2000, entitled My Reason, featuring the single of the same name. Following the success of the album that saw rave reviews from ThePRP, Nosebleed17, Dynamic Rock, Undevoured, Indulged, and many others, Spiritfall returned to the studio in 2002 under the quidance of Michael Rosen (Santana, dredg) and Jason Weaver (Santana, Green Day,dredg) more confident and determined than ever. “I'm very confident in our music. I believe that, in our music, you can hear all of the influences, but in the end it comes out as something that is fresh and original,” states Anthony, while Christian goes on to conclude, “the further we push both of those boundaries (melody contrasted with aggression) the more original we become.” The result is an album of striking intensity & profound beauty that will pierce the hearts of any listeners, leaving them with an indelible impression of wonder and disbelief.
The power of expressing emotion through music is taken to new levels of heightened perception when Spiritfall takes the stage. Taking their sound throughout the nation with such acts as Papa Roach, Taproot, Alien Ant Farm, Will Haven, Insolence, dredg, Onelinedrawing, Revolution Smile, Fenix TX, 8 Stop 7, Zebrahead, Pressure 4-5, The Juliana Theory and ZAO, Spiritfall has established a very strong and loyal following spanning the entire continent. Making their first journey across country courtesy of The PRP.com, Spiritfall teamed up with respected friends & artists Shun on a nationwide tour entitled All Under Heaven. Three months later, they embarked on their second national tour with ZAO, Haste, Not Waving but Drowning, Shun and [minus ]. Are We There Yet covered over ten thousand miles and thirty-four cities.
As the turn of a new millennium has dawned upon us, we are left with a future that promises entire new worlds of discovery & creation that will span the far reaches of the galaxy. Led by an ambition & self-actualization that is unparalleled, Spiritfall beckons us towards this era by spawning a sound that will push the limits of creativity and expression to new heights of sensual & emotive awareness. “Our goal is to completely ‘expose’ ourselves emotionally and musically,” admits vocalist Anthony Stone, while guitarist Christian Spencer reveals, “There really are no boundaries in music, and that is what makes it so powerful.” Founded by their passions & dreams, Spiritfall have created a benchmark in emotional expressionism from which all future bands will one day measure their success, leaving no room for doubt as to who are the true pioneers of this musical revolution…Spiritfall…

Press Reviews
Spiritfall - My Reason [October 8, 2000] The music contained on Spiritfall's debut My Reason is so maturely passionate and beautiful that they manage to create their on genre....it is emo? Possibly, with a clearly present heavy side. With smooth yet catching vocals and extremely melodic, passionate, emotional instrumentals, Spiritfall posesses a drive and an element of soothing compassion that makes them both an instant hit and emotional wonder in today's scene. Out of Chico, CA, a focal point of the emo scene, Spiritfall manages to both clash and blend with their origin. Sticking out with more of a heavy, catching sound and then fitting in, so to say, with melody and emotion, Spiritfall is not a one-glimpse-one-listen band. They will be kept in your mind, heart and music collection........................you'll be seeing this band again. - undevoured.com |
