    Artist History
Formed in early 1986 under the name Renegade, now known as the band Southern Cross, they enjoyed instant success in the dingy little roadhouses that they usually called home. They broke into the major markets in Texas with a vengeance and drive that had not been seen since a certain "Little Ole Band From Texas" had hit the big time.

    Press Reviews
Please Note: some of the following Press Reviews were given before the band changed their name to Southern Cross, while they were going under thename Renegade.--------------------------------------------------Gritz May 2000 - the on-line magazine of Southern Rock (www.gritz.net) From out of Houston, Texas comes Renegade, a four-man band filled with Southern Rock ideology and confederate patriotism. A band who displays influences ranging from The Outlaws to The Winters Brothers to Metallica. Yes, I said Metallica. Songs like "Black Widow" and especially "Human Destroyer" combine the feel of Southern Rock with the metallic attack of Metallica, or even early Kiss. Confused? Don't be. Renegade rocks, and there ain't a thing wrong with that! "Line Upon the Sand" has an Outlaws feel with a message to "remember the Alamo," while "Fishin' Song" is reminiscent of Toy Caldwell's "Bob Away My Blues" or Elvin Bishop's "Goin' Fishin'," providing a genuine acoustic foundation and a smooth country rock feel. Closing the set is "Last Last Call," one of the best tracks on the recording, with some very good musicianship and a very clever lyric. Renegade has a lot of Texas rock and roll heart and soul, and some roots that are deeply embedded in the genre of Southern Rock, and that's the kind of band that will help to carry Southern Rock into the 21st Century in style. -Michael B. Smith-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Skydog's Music May 2000 (www.skydogmusic.com) Renegade Thirteen Years In The Makin' Skydog here…We've got another keeper, folks. I'm hearing a strong early Outlaws sound on this one…very fine! There's no doubt that these guys are proud to be from Texas…and Texas ought to be proud of them. It might have taken 13 years to make, but it was damn sure worth it !---------------------------------------------------------------------------------North of the Border; Houston, Texas By Dave "Screwloose" Miller March 2000 Renegade - Thirteen Years In the Makin' ......." they bring a new vision to Southern Rock, in the tradition of 38 Special, Marshall Tucker and Georgia Satellites. Songs are all originals, and range from the sinister "BlackWidow" that sizzles with the warning that 'she's the kind that will kill ya' and "Line Upon the Sand" is a ballad about the brave souls who lost their lives at the Alamo. "Other End of the Bitter End" tackles the subject of how society has gone to hell, and "Human Destroyer" is a pounding anthem about a mean motha' 'with fence post arms and tree trunk legs' that features some stinging guitar licks. "Fishin' Song" is about kickin back and takin it easy, while "Last Last Call" recalls those chance meetings at beer joints that you never want to end. Lots of good southern fried rockhere for you to enjoy! Highly recommended! "
