Artist History
Throughout heavy music there have been few who would attempt to put a band of only three members in front of a frenzied crowd. For some the idea is impossible. However, there is one band that not only does it, but does it well...quite possibly the best. It is the union of three that gives them their strength and power to produce such a tight and blistering sound. That band carries the namesake of godsize. The band has been throwing down hard Chicago-core style since January of 2000. For many years the Chicago based group has been nurturing a sound that combines hardcore, metal, and old school punk. Three brothers all hungry for hard work, live shows, and insane crowds. godsize was started by C.S. on bass and E ride on guitar. The two have been playing together in bands for the past 10 years. One of the major advantages of this three man line-up is the strategic blending of their vocals. E- rides melodic tones and higher register layered with CSs death growls and lower tones has set them apart from most other heavy bands and has much to do with the entirely original feel to their music. The original drummer was entirely grove based laying deep in the pocket. Tom Bruzan took over the position of drums in March of 2002. His past projects have been Void and Less Than Majority, among others. Taking advantage of drum instruction from the early age of four years old until his teenage years, Tom is well versed in the technical styles of complicated time signatures and tempo changes along with the more loose grove beats. The three members have been honing their writing, arranging, and performance skills to the utmost in many local music scenes. A wide range of influences including Black Sabbath, Biohazard, Suicidal Tendencies, and Messugah makes the band’s foundation steady in the footholds of heavy music that has been laid down before them in the works of those very influences. Lyrically, the themes of their songs cover racism, hate, personal beliefs, inner emotions, and the struggles of life in reality. Their years of experience have brought them to a critical level which can’t be contained any further before the masses are exposed to such immediate and severely opinionated messages.
In April of 2000 godsize released their first recording effort simply titled godsize EP. The seven songs were a mix of older material reworked and new material that was a foreshadowing of the bands new direction. They released their second CD, RESIST, in May of 2001. The entire recording was done at Groove Master Studios in Chicago, Illinois (Disturbed, Loudmouth, NoOne, Machine Head). godsize and producer Tadpole put together a tight and well thought out recording that got much attention in the Chicago scene and it’s industry. The three songs on RESIST clearly show the diversity of their evolving material and progressive definition that is the sound of godsize. Currently, the band is finishing their new ep, entitled n.f.r. with George Langis in his studio Signal Sound Source in Chicago. The choice of studio for this recording project was based on Georges experience with original heavy music. George contributed much work to Mudvaynes album LD50, did the preproduction for Soils upcoming release, along with producing recording projects for many of the Chicago bands that are quickly gaining attention. George has helped godsize to capture truly raw tracks that are the core of their sound to build a truly incredible mix that brings to light the bands new material and direction. The release of n.f.r. is tentatively planned for March 2003. godsize plans to tour the Midwest region and spread out as many copies of the new ep to as many old and new fans as they can. |
