    Artist History
Zambra, meaning "festival" in Arabic, began in 1997. The band originated with Vang and Williams who decided early on that they wanted to be career professional musicians. Vang studied classical and flamenco guitar under Juan Serrano, a flamenco guitar master at California State University, Fresno. Williams majored in percussion at the same university. They met briefly in 1994 but it took three years for them to perform together. They quickly discovered they shared a love of Latin music and world sounds and composing songs. Their ideas blossomed. Their first show, in late 1997, was at the Market Street Café in Fresno. Together they laid the foundation for the five-member band.Carrera, a percussion major at CSUF, joined the band in 1998. His love of Latin rhythm and world beats is clearly heard on the conga drums. Later that year, Sevilla met the band members during karaoke night at a local club. The musicians saw her perform and a bond was quickly formed. Sevilla is a natural performer and she is passionate about the music of Zambra.(over)Together, the four recorded Zambra’s self-titled debut CD. It is an instrumental work displaying the talents of Vang, Williams and Carrera. The album was completed and released in late 1999.The band enjoyed a heavy schedule of playing live shows throughout Fresno. That Christmas season, in a chance meeting at a local Borders bookstore, the last member of the band joined. Bass guitarist Josh Addison had played in other bands throughout Fresno. His combination of musical knowledge and creative talent blends with the other band members. Their combination of passion, energy and excitement can be heard in their recordings and experienced at their live shows.Zambra books up to 15 shows each month. They have been featured in local publications and on Valley news programs, such as Channel 21 KFTV, the most-watched channel in Central California. They now perform in San Francisco and Los Angeles as well other cities in the San Joaquin Valley. Zambra’s music keeps growing in popularity. Its original song, "Rhumba de la Noche," has been the number one Latin song on the Internet’s MP3.com. Zambra has four songs in the top Latin 100, including two songs in the top Latin 20.Zambra’s passion for the music fuels the fire that keeps the band members recording and performing. Their enjoyment of the music ignites their audiences. Through their growing success, Zambra is destined to bring its unique Latin sounds to music lovers for years to come.
