Artist History
An extraordinary jazz vocalist, SUE TUCKER, comes from a family of known jazz musicians. She didn't have to look for encouragement when her love for singing took off. My father was one of the first jazz educators in Iowa. Music was always around... mostly jazz. Before she took up singing, Sue was blowin' her tenor sax in jazz band and tootin' a duet with CLARK TERRY at a jazz festival on her clarinet. I think playing a horn has had a great influence on my singing. I've tried to approach singing from an instrumental mindset. Space is just as important as sound. After attending college, Sue began a studio career producing and singing jingles and industrials with a voice-over thrown in on occasion. For the past five years she's been teaching music theory, vocal studio techniques and is the coordinator of the ensemble dept. at MUSIC TECH in downtown Minneapolis. You'll also find her at various night spots singing her cool jazz. Recently, Sue had the opportunity to vocal coach TIM ALLEN in his up and coming movie JOE SOMEBODY. The scene that required his singing talents was a karoke bar with he and four other guys singing to the Back St. Boys, Larger Than Life. Although Tim felt quite uncomfortable having to sing, he pulled it off with his comedic talents. It was a trip! Also, she just finished helping PHIL RAMONE with some string/horn charts for DONNY OSMOND'S current tour. It was great to meet such a legend in Phil Ramone and such a talent as Donny Osmond. Sue's self-produced debut CD, Meant for You is now available at her website, CDStreet.com, Amazon.com, CDBaby and at all live performances. It's a straight- ahead swing CD with the last song (title cut) an original by Sue and her brother, well-known New York sax man, DICK OATTS. |

"Sue swings along with some of the best vocalists on the scene." From Jazzreview.com by Richard Bourcier."Like Marlene VerPlanck and Diana Kral, she owns the songs she sings by her interpetation and delivery of the lyric." WOBO Cincinnati by Larry Routt."In all, there's almost an hour of good, pleasant,well-executed straight-ahead jazz singing to be heard here." 52nd Street Jazz by Michael Colby"As mellow, mainstream small group vocal performances go, this is an admirable effort well worth hearing by enthusiasts of these genres."David Lewis/Cadence - Jan. 2001"Sue Tucker is a singer who shouldn't have to make her own records. She deserves the support of agood record label and the opportunity to be heard by the national jazz audience."Mathew Bahl/All About Jazz - Dec.2000"Meant For You is a fine CD by any standard and it has moments so wonderful, we can heartily recommend you buy this disc."Mr. Lucky - Nov.2000 |
