Press Reviews
I stumbled upon Sonya Kaye while browsing Christian Blues on MP3.com. I loved the songs I downloaded, so I got the CD. Sonya has a tremendous voice that delivers the emotion of her faith. She moves easily from blues to jazz to R&B. Her backing band makes the transitions just as effortlessly. Standout tracks are I've Never Been to Seminary (blues), Canann Land (jazz), and Use Me, Lord (R&B and a clever re-write of Bill Withers' hit). Sonya also ably covers Stevie Wonder's Heaven is a Zillion Light Years Away. The CD ends with Servant's Heart, a loving tribute to a Christian matriarch. Make sure you don't pull the CD from your player too soon; an acoustic version of Servant's Heart is a hidden delight. Overall, the production is well done, however, Sonya's vocals sometimes get lost in the mix. This is a real shame, because her voice is the standout instrument in every song. Sonya's style of Christian music is hard to find, but worth looking for. -Tom McCool, Ivy Tech State College, Lafayette, Indiana.------------Through Diane's Ears - The Incredibly Small Concert Hall Sunday Blues by Sonya Kaye Gospel, Soul, and Rhythm and Blues, is what makes up Sonya Kaye and her CD "Sunday Blues". Sonya is a spirit-filled woman who gave her life over to God to guide her through this adventure we call Life! She is married with twin boys. Sonya loves to minsiter to people through her music and support others in their time of need. The title track, "Sunday Blues," is the Blues for sure! An all instrumental song with excellent guitar playing and swaying melodies. With an added bonus at the end! My personal favorite on the 11-song CD is, "In The Jungle," with lyrics like, "He promises that he'll never leave us. And we don't have to face this world alone. He is right by our side, every day and every night. And we don't have to fight on our own". This song made me wanna lift my arms and sing Hallelujah!! This CD is beautiful, full of love for God that comes from Sonya's own heart. - Diane Jessurun ------FOR MORE REVIEWS OF "THROUGH YOUR EYES" VISIT WWW.AMAZON.COM |
