Artist History
Founded in '98 under the name Penumbra with just Macklen & Ivan. Because of local musicians, they to start writing just the two of them, in a style that ranges from heavy to speed metal, having in mind a second guitar and keyboards. By the end of that year, Victor & Galia join, both ex-members of Mortigena (also from Chihuahua). With this they begin a more serious composition phase and new styles and ideas arise, trying to create their own style based on the tastes of all members. After a few months of recruiting several bassists, Julio joins the band for good, completing the rhythm section. The band begins to play several local gigs with local and US bands and within a few months their following grew. Time to go into the studio to commit their work to tape. Recordings started in October '99 and ended in December. During this time that they realised they needed to change the name and UmbraE was chosen, still preserving the essence of the original and at the same time reflects the ideology of the current group. The first CD "Infamous Revelations" is released in the spring of 2000. In September Galia leaves and is temporarily replaced by Alex Sanchez, which in turn left some time later. In Early 2002 Mónica San Martín joined in as the new keyboardist. UmbraE has opened up for international bands Stratovarius and Therion and now "Infamous Revelations" is available again in Mexico under Concreto Records beginning January 2002. They also have written enough material for a 2nd CD and they've recorded a handful of songs including a cover from mexican 'cult' band La Barranca. |

Press Reviews
ROAAR Magazine (January 2001) Review of CD "Infamous Revelations" by Randy Blake II (URL is http://www.geocities.com/roaarmagazine/page8.html ). 5 crosses (highest rating). Excerpts: "No one [in] ROAAR can understand why this band does not have a [record] contract" "UmbraE have done support slots with the likes of Stratovarius and from what I hear on this CD I'd be willing to bet that UmbraE gave them more than just a run for their money! ...[and] Helloween had better start looking over it's shoulder" "UmbraE have a winner here" "[Referring to ROAAR's competition for CD of the year] Pack a lunch 'cause it's gonna be a long day to out do this" "Agressively melodic and gracefully extreme, awesome, if I can only use one word." Lengua (Sept/Oct 2000) Recomendation of the month "una muy buena banda de death metal melódico" |
