Artist description
Soldiers of Sound is the brainchild of Mark W. Hibbard, a well kept secret of the electronic music world. Founded early in 2000, Soldiers of Sound is Mark's effort to move his music into the realm of electro-industrial.Mark's earlier projects where mostly melodic trance tunes. Yearning for an outlet for his darker ideas, as well as a forum for his poetry, he began to write electro-industrial. He has had such good reactions to these darker side projects, he decided to temporarily abandon trance and dedicate his music-writing and publishing efforts to Soldiers of Sound. |

Artist History
Mark W. Hibbard is 20 years old and attends college at William and Mary in Virginia, USA. He has been programming, producing, and writing music for several years. Mark's first exposure to the world of music technology was in the course of working as a sound engineer for local bands in early high school. Through his experiences as an engineer, he developed his ear and talents for the production side of the music business. Having taken a couple years of classical piano as a kid, Mark would often find a piano and jam, improvising and fooling around with musical ideas for hours. His first "song" was created on his father's toy keyboard at the age of 15. He overdubbed successive tracks by cascading from one cassette tape to another through a cheesy little radio shack DJ mixer. After that, he was hooked. Intrigued by the possibilities for expression through keyboards and programming, he bought an Alesis NanoSynth and started writing techno songs using the freeware version of Cubasis. Over the years as Mark's studio has greatly expanded, he has also honed his music and programming skills. An audiophile at heart, a sound engineer by ear, and a musician in his soul, he often orchestrates, produces, and tweaks each song for months before he is satisfied with the results. |

Instruments
Soldiers of Sound's current setup features a Korg Trinity Plus, which makes up the core of most of his songs. He sequences using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.02 on a Pentium Celeron 533 running Windoze 98. Other synths that he has used for his songs include an Akai MPC2000, an Akai S2000 sampler, and his original Alesis Nanosynth. His vox equipment includes a JoeMeek VC6Q, an old home stereo 10-band EQ, an Alesis Midiverb IV, and a noisy little guitar chorus unit. He uses a Shure Beta58 when he can't borrow his friend's KSM32. And of course, this is all mixed down through his trusty Mackie 1402VLZPro. Audio capture for vox and for final mixdown is by a Midiman Dmann 2044 sound card. |
