Artist History I'm playing' drums from 15 years and my first and continuos passion is TOTO and JEFF PORCARO. I met Steve, David, Mike and Simon in '92 in the Kingdom of Desire tour... Basically a self-taught drummer, I started play a rock-funk style,"stolen" here and there, but especially from Stewart Copeland, Steve Gadd, Jeff Porcaro... In these years I have also listened to drummers like D.WECKL,V.COLAIUTA,D.CHAMBERS, and recently to C.WACKERMAN, T.BRECTHLEIN, J.BARON... and then B.STEWART and S.PHILLIPS. Probably Simon Phillips influenced me to write my first tunes in 1996: after 8 months working' hard, I've realized my first CD POLLUTION (this is a special record, a sort of first DEMO, first steps, cause I've created music bases with a Korg X5 keyboard and an old Atari computer with a Cubase software; finished all the arrangements I've recorded my drums directly on a VHS stereo tape at first take!)... In 1999 I've started to play jazz with Thelonious school jazz players in Vicenza, especially with a great quartet, Ermanno Zuccato (sax), Michele Zattera (guitar), Michele Gava (c.bass). I've played straight ahead jazz for two years with this quartet... ...from 2000 I've started an incredible experience recording and producing "cyber collaborations" with the best musicians on the web; more than 20 musicians from all around the world, joining to the first great global collaboration in the world. (Heavenly love is a smooth jazz piece featuring Peggy Morris (vocals, fluite and alto sax). A showpiece for Peggy indeed with outstanding fluite and a sax solos. Especially her fluite play is absolutely impressing. Her scatting vocals combined with Mat's synthesizer and piano play set a new dimension. Mat's comment: Composed in Germany by Mat, rhythm section completed in Italy with a fantastique Steve Gaddish groove by Filippo Bertacche (thanks Filippo, some of the best drum tracks I played with !!) and in New York by my masterbassplayer Bill Lawrence. Funk Dawgs are featured on Jazz Player Magazine CD Vol. 8, No. 3 - June/July 2001 and also on Saxophone Journal CD Vol.27, No.3 Jan/Feb 2003... I'm probably the first "Internet Drummer" of the world, experimenting this new and particular type of collaboration... and Funk Dawgs is first full active "Internet band" on the world... ...so I created my first Net CD called NET EXPERIENCE, then, probably the most international and global one TREK TO NOWHERE through the last one called I.M.C. Vol.III
