Artist description
Listening to American Dope is like groping the budding breasts of your first girlfriend in the back seat of your parents' car. You suspect that somehow it's wrong, but you also know that that is the best damn thing that has ever happened to you. Like undoing the forbidding first button on her blouse, the opening chords of the American Dope CD send a rock solid message about the full-throttle, good time freak-out that is about to take place. Now just go with it, and hope your parents don't find out. |

Press Reviews
A&R Pick You could call American Dope just a band of pretty boys, but the fact of the matter is that they're really not all that pretty! Falling a little too far on the mooky side of androgynous certainly never stopped the legendary New York Dolls from tarting up for a good rock and roll show, though, and it doesn't stop this San Francisco quartet, either. XXOO is only five songs long, but it demonstrates an embryonic band picking and choosing from its influences to come up with its own particular hybrid. The high point comes midway, with "Rocket Girls"s Marc Bolan-esque melody and falsetto background vocals, followed by the gritty riff and sneering lead vocal of "Space Boy." -CMJ New Music Report Sex, Dope, and Rock'n'Roll Here's what'll have you hooked on American Dope: "Rock and rollin' all night long aboard our secret base/ Cuz nighttime lasts forever when you're deep in outer space/ Got to keep on rockin', got to save the human race/ Cuz Dope is what you need to keep the solar system safe." Back up that message of rock redemption with hard rock chops and dynamo glam performance and you've won the battle against whatever intergalactic forces might threaten our musical universe. -SF Weekly |
