Artist History Created by Fernando Souto and Paulo Kiss in 1988, Vôo Noturno had on its first formation, guitarist and singer Pedro Alexandre. At that time, the band was a group of four musicians, completed with Fernando Souto on the bass guitar, Paulo Kiss on the lead guitar and Eduardo on the drums. With this formation, they started to write their own songs in Portuguese (“Vôo Noturno”, and “ Sonhos na Escuridao” – Dreams in the Darkness in English) and recorded the first demo tape. These songs were broadcasted at a local radio program and they started showing up in live performances. When Fernando moved away from Rio de Janeiro for professional reasons, the shows were postponed for some years later. About 1996, the band decided to start playing together again. By that time, Marco Britto was the drummer and Fernando took over the keyboards. They wrote new songs (now in English) and recorded an independent CD (“Close your eyes”). After the recording process, they asked Newton Gomes to join the bass guitar and hit road. In April 25 1997, the band made its first presentation in an important college stage, in Rio de Janeiro. After this successful show, they toured through all college stages and night-clubs in Rio, always with lots of fans following their steps. The most important performance of all was no doubt in Amazonas Theatre, one of the greatest stages in the world, in the middle of the Rain Forest, city of Manaus, state of Amazonas. After this show, they became the first rock band to perform in such a place. Their first album, praised wherever played, had more than 1600 units sold out of 2000, as well as T-shirts and other promotional material. As any other independent band, they are still waiting for producers to help them record, distribute and sell their albums in Brazil and other countries.
