    Artist History
Skender formed in 1998 following a solo release by Perth singer/songwriter/guitarist, Roly Skender. This release, titled Dumwahdoo was seen as something of a departure from his previous efforts with popular Perth/Fremantle rock outfit Circus Murders as experimentation with new electronic forms began to take over. The band quickly earned a reputation as one of the more innovative acts around town, mixing live drums, bass, guitar and vocals with samples from home-burnt CDs and more recently live vision mixing. Despite the experimental nature of the mix, song writing has remained a focal point as the music crosses genres. Their much anticipated live audio/visual shows have been a major success and with a full length CD release due out in December 2000, you can expect to be hearing and seeing a lot more from Skender.

    Press Reviews
"Skender had the audience entranced...sheer brilliance." - Marianna Longmire (Grok Magazine - 10th April 1999) / "It didn't take the crowd long to catch on before the room was rocking to the trio's explosive, experimental dimensions....Skender came back with the goods when the crowd begged for more and the music spilled out into the street for their final encore" - Sophie Meissner (X-Press Magazine - 25th Nov 1999) / “The Skender line-up of bass (Pete Buzzard), drums (Chris Horan) and vocals, sequencing, vision mixing and optional guitar (Roly Skender), mixes contemporary sounds with a stylish flair for songwriting, ranging from pop to cabaret to beat. The vision mixing was quite effective, running in sync with the sequencer and the live band (the drummer playing accurately without the aid of headphones), but most interestingly, instead of projecting onto the screen, the projection area encompassed the entire stage, putting the performers 'in the mix', so to speak. Using Coldcut's Vjam software, Skender were also able to incorporate triggered AV samples in real time, play synced video clips, or simulate a lighting show with the projector. Although the music may not be hedonistic enough for certain dance tastes, Skender's show may indicate the shape of future live entertainment." – Sabian Wilde (Zebra Magazine – 19th Oct, 2000)
